Interesting update on the NZ aircraft register:
ZK-BFR - R.A.F BE2F moved from TVAL to The Old Stick & Rudder Company on 11/11/14.

My understanding is that The Old Stick & Rudder Company is now owned by Gene de Marco.
So I guess it is still in the family, but merely just another branch of the family.

The 2f is the genuine one, isn't it?

Interesting: Does that mean that we may just possibly see -5648 and -3009 back in their correct (aka RNZAF) military markings?
One can but hope...

I first became aware that Gene de Marco owns The Old Stick & Rudder Company including the Kittyhawk and Corsair when it was mentioned at Warbirds Over Wanaka earlier this year.
It has since been confirmed to me by somebody else from SVAS.

The CAA register reflects the operator of an aircraft, rather than the owner. Gene's ownership of OS&R doesn't necessarily mean that he owns the Corsair, P-40 or BE.2f, just that his company is the registered operator. In the same way, TVAL isn't necessarily the owner of the WW1 fleet. I suspect that most of the TVAL aircraft are owned by the 14-18 Trust, or similar legal entity, and TVAL has been engaged to operate the aircraft using their various licenses and approvals. Is there any way of determining actual aircraft ownership? I suspect not (for member of the public, anyway), as these are private financial matters and you would probably need access to the Securities Register and the financial information of the individuals/companies/banks/trusts involved. Having the BE.2f moved from TVAL to OS&R could mean that ownership has changed, or it could mean that the ownership remains the same and that it has moved to a different operator. I just thought it was interesting as this is the first genuine WW1 aircraft to move from TVAL.

I have been advised that if an aircraft in NZ is to be or is being "operated" by someone for a certain period then it is necessary for the "operator" to be changed to reflect that. For example, if Gene is "Operating" that aircraft for some filming or other purpose for a certain time, he becomes the "operator" and when that use is finished, if the aircraft is to be "operated" by another entity, then the NZ Register is changed again to reflect the new operator. All very confusing but keeps the Reggie spotters on their toes !

Many aero club aircraft are actually owned by private individuals or syndicates but are operated by the aero club. Thus the NZCR lists the club not the individual or syndicate.

I am of the understanding that the Corsair and Kittyhawk are owned by individuals (well known pilots) but are "operated" by the OS&R.

Likewise the Spitfire Tr.9 - Warbirds Adventure Rides Ltd. I also didn't notice until just now that the Spitfire XIV shows as AVspecs Ltd.
