Boy did he! I hear they got in to a bit of fisticuffs at a Squadron reunion sometime after the war. Oh dear.
I think Geoff blamed him for the beach landing incident on the ferry flight up to Tontouta and never really respected him after that.

Yes he did, but others I have spoken with said it was not Quill's fault entirely. There were various reasons. One was the CO of Norfolk Island delayed their departure by hours because he wanted to entertain them, and also they were given outdated maps, and the Hudsons were not given correct radio frequencies. The whole incident was a balls up. They are lucky to have not lost anyone.
Geoff told me he threatened to shoot Quill, in front of witnesses, because Quill had disobeyed procedure in the air and not listened to Geoff's command (though lower ranked he was leading the patrol) and as a result Quill got shot up by an American ship. Quill did and said nothing about the threat but Geoff's promotion to Flight Lieutenant that he'd been informed of a week before was quietly revoked and he remained a Flying Officer.
I really think you could make a great drama series on the formation of No. 14 Squadron and their entry into combat. Some really amazing characters, great events and the obligatory clash of personalities between the CO who's never seen action and the lower ranked but very experienced fighter ace.

A genuine RNZAF aircraft, in RNZAF markings, a combat veteran to boot, AND in the USA!! Amazing, and thanks for sharing your pics with us. Unfortunately, and based on casual observation of various other P-40's over many years, one has to ask if anyone is prepared to bet as to how long it will remain without the almost obligatory sharks teeth? So far the owners haven't succumbed to temptation, so one can but hope... Just wondering if anyone has got any updates? Has it returned to the skies after it's bumps with the ground a few years back?

Yes - visited Cincinnati and the aircraft after Oshkosh this year...wing is progressing well and they should be flying later this year...stunning restoration.
I think the bit about it being flown by Fisken is an urban myth, that no-one has bothered to correct...but history on 2 OTU is enough for me.

Indeed - nicest late model P-40 I've seen The radio, cockpit, and armament fits are very very original. Hope the Judges at Oshkosh see it the same. Cheers

It's brilliant to see an aircraft in RNZAF colours in the U.S. warbird scene. It is absolutely immaculate, and a popular aircraft at the Oshkosh warbird park. Her crew was doing paint touch up - with a fine airtist's brush to almost imperceptible scratches on the edges of the hinges of the ammo access panels!

That's fantastic. What a tribute!
Great photos John! Thanks so much for sharing. It's so cool to see another RNZAF-schemed machine - this time one with RNZAF history - in such a prime spot at Oshkosh and being enjoyed by so many people.
I saw moments ago on the EAA webcam a few people still looking over NZ3119, it makes me proud to see her sitting there.
