SEEK AND DESTROY UPDATE As advised in April we found that the publisher Bob Anderson had mislead us to belief that the book had been printed. A small working committee was established to see what could be done to get the book printed and delivered/sold. Progress as at today: 1. A full electronic copy of the book is now in my hands as author, ready for printing 2. Bob Anderson has agreed to pass over the publishing rights to me. 3. We are currently looking at raising funds for the printing of 1,000 copies which will satisfy the RNZAF's entitlement of 400, plus 5 that were prepaid to the publisher. 4. The balance will be sold directly from me, with the income gained to be used to pay back any loan raised for printing (estimated cost NZ$17,000 for 1,000 books), with any additional monies going to the Missing Wingman Trust.
Greetings, acknowledging the long silence on SEEK AND DESTROY I can inform all there has been some progress. As the result of the collapse of the original publishers business and his extremely poor health, a person was appointed to wind up the business and to pass over, where possible the numerous semi-completed projects to other publishers. For SEEK AND DESTROY which is ready to go to print, there is keen interest by a small NZ based publishing company to take it on. Currently, they are doing the sums to see how it would fit into their business plan and what the overheads/profit will be for them. This would negate us having to raise a large amount of money and market and sell them to repair any production costs. Fingers crossed, we will hopefully see a positive outcome in the foreseeable future. On four years so far on this book!
Some good news. Following extended negotiations a new publisher has been found for SEEK AND DESTROY. The book is to be redesigned (without loss of content) which will reduce the overall page numbers to around 452. The new publisher hopes to have it on the shelves by end of February early March 2018. So far this project has taken up 5 years of my life as at October this year!
SEEK AND DESTROY update. The new publisher's designer has worked hard and has produced 3 chapters so far in the redesign without losing any of the content and has reduced the book so far from 606 pages to 505 pages. All going well the redesign will be finished before the end of November.
An update on the book's progress. The new publisher has fully reworked the book and the final proofing is being carried out before, I have to realign the 27 pages of index to the new page numbers! This should be completed this week, and then the publisher will prepare the book for printing. Noting that it will be printed overseas and will be held up by Chinese new year etc, it is hoped that the advance copies will be in country by the end of February with a main launch in mid March 2018.
We are go! The new publisher has just signed off the reworked book which is now down to 338 pages without losing any text or images. Over the Christmas break two of us spent 60 hours re-aligning the indices to the new page numbers. The 19 pages of indices include sections that cover such areas as: location, people (over 1,000 names), aircraft including all the helicopters by individual serial number entries, Air and Army units, other military formations All going well the book will be on the shelves late March early April (you have to take into account the Chinese new year which delays production)
