Don's organising skills to mark the 10th Anniversary of THE Forum were fantastic, he really outdid himself. First the Forum members listened to a few speeches: Then the Army Honour guard marched past (short notice couldn't get the RNZAF): Followed by a musical interlude by the NZ Army Band: And here we are with the Baron searching in vain for the flypast. Ken and Don wore their Forum Tshirts (I forgot ): We retired back to Wigram Base (as the name for the old mess has apparently changed again) ordered a suitable refreshement and some of us ordered dinner. The new management have done a new improved menu and it was really good. I had a steak sandwich, Teresa had a salmon dish, Sharee (Don's wife) had a shrimp rissotto dish, Ken had fish of the day and we were all in agreement that the food was much improved. The band and the audience in front of the Air Force Museum was all apart of a fund raising dinner for the Rennadale War Veterans Home. As Don knew about it we thought it was fitting to watch a ceremonial march past considering the reason we had gathered to celebrate 10 years of WONZ. Dave I'm sure your Dad would be immensely proud of what you have achieved and I'm sorry that I didn't get the opportunity to meet him.

and it's auster bla bla, auster bla bla, hehe Ah ha no talk of Austers although Don did ask how I was getting on with the old girl. However there was insults a plenty when the Baron arrived, there were cries of "Homo!" and "Auster owner!" but I shot him down with "Tomahawk owner!" as there's no coming back from that one!

It was jolly nice of the NZ Army to do a march past for the forum's 10th Anniversary I was very tempted to mount the dias for the salute! Back in the bar Baz astounded us with his comment that he lived in a house with 4 walls and that it was rectangular!

Baz asked me about the website where you could watch all the matches in live streaming. watchcric.net/channel/live-cricket-2This works but if you are not careful you will be bombarded with all kinds of advertising. I borrowed a laptop for the occasion but I see it only took me a few minutes to get rid of the rogue downloaded sites afterwards.

However there was insults a plenty when the Baron arrived, there were cries of "Homo!" and "Auster owner!" but I shot him down with "Tomahawk owner!" as there's no coming back from that one! Actually I did try saying that Auster came about after a disagreement with Piper... Piper were there first ! www.classicairforce.com/auster-info?z=NQY&p=2The Auster's ancestry is tangled with that of the iconic American high-wing spotter plane, the magnificent Piper Cub. The Cub was designed by an Englishman named Clarence Gilbert Taylor - known to everyone as "CG". He founded Taylor Brothers, an aircraft manufacturing company that developed a series of light, highly successful machines, one of which was the Cub. His company attracted investment from a farmer's son named William Thomas Piper. Together they laid the foundations of one of the world's most famous light aviation companies.
Differences between Piper, the businessman, and Taylor, the designer, became more and more serious, and in 1935 Taylor split to form the Taylorcraft Aircraft Company. As WW2 consumed Europe, CG opened a subsidiary company in Nottinghamshire. Taylorcraft Aeroplanes Ltd of Thurmaston, soon to become known as British Taylorcraft, designed and built a small range of light planes. Among them was one which was to become, in its own way, as iconic as the Piper. Christened the Auster Mk 1 it was to become the mainstay of British military observation and liaison duties........ In 1946, Taylorcraft changed its name to Auster and moved production facilities to Rearsby Aerodrome.Of course William Piper then went on to produce a very successful range of GA aircraft. Oh, and the Tomahawk throw-away line, - I figured that was directed at my driver... the one that has a flyable machine. ! ** Edit ** Another link. pioneersofflight.si.edu/content/william-t-piper-0joeclarksblog.com/?p=1185 PIPER CUB background...... photorecon.net/eaas-2012-airventure-celebrates-75-years-of-the-piper-j-3-cub/

You should have....the photograph posted to this group would have been priceless!! In my younger days, I would probably have had enough of a W-G-A-F attitude to have actually done it for a laugh.

And if you spend $50 on a Google Chromecast it's effortless to watch on your big-screen TV
