I was there! It was the first time I'd experienced the P-51 PRESENCE! The sound, the speed, the size of the prop - were (and still are) stunning... Trevor Bland flew, you can see his distinctive red helmet in both pics. Thanks for the memories That prop disc appearing among the sand dunes (and there were still dunes around at Paraparaumu then) as TAF taxied back along the runway and the sounds are two of my memories from the 1985 event as well. I was at that show in Palmy in 1986 too. Thanks all for the pics and videos, fascinating stuff.

Who was your father Stu ? He certainly got about. Sorry for the delay in replying. My father was head of production sound at TVNZ then transferred to the news department as a cameraman and live eye truck operator. He also did private video production work in his spare time and after he retired. I don't know if he contributed anything to the Mustang video or was given a copy by contacts. I found it in a pile of old vhs tapes that were going to be thrown away after he died so rescued it. Cheers, Stu.

The first a poor photograph but this 27 Feb 1958, reveals the Mustangs awaiting disposal at WB. An expert photoshopper unable to improve this.
A close up.

John Sager owned and flew it for a short time. I’m fairly sure John Denton never flew it.
