The "MacRoberts Reply" Short Stirling became very famous, but lesser known are the Hurricanes. Here's an interesting article on the kiwi connection!
New Zealand Herald, Volume 79, Issue 24449, 5 December 1942 (via Papers Past)
MacROBERT HURRICANES
NEW ZEALANDER PILOTS ONE
One of four Hurricane fighters presented to the Royal Air Force by Lady MacRobert, of Douneside, Aberdeenshire, is being flown in the Middle East by Flight-Lieutenant J. P. Barber, son of Mrs. N. V. Barber, formerly of Rotorua, and now of Auckland. Three of the machines are named after Lady MacRobert's three sons who all lost their lives while serving with the Royal Air Force.
The fourth fighter, which Flight- Lieutenant Barber flies, is named "MacRobert's Salute to Russia," as a tribute to the courage of the Russian people. Lady MacRobert previously presented a Stirling bomber, named "MacRobert's Reply," to the Bomber Command in Britain. This machine has taken part in many raids on enemy territory.
