Thanks Peter for that photo.
Where's Hairy, or Damon, or any other regular Ardmore visitors when we need them?

Stumbled across the following photo at the adf serials site on the internet of what is reputed to be NZ5612 at the Rukuhia graveyard. Yuk.

Funnily I was out at Adrmore with my son today.Appaently a Glasair had crashed. It Had . It flipped on its back after the tyre on the nose gear had deflated in flight..
The Corsair As fas as I know Ross still has the Corsair NZ5612.He had other Corsair parts and airframes but have gone now I think. He also had a ex RNZAF SBD I think too ,but also I believe it has gone sometime ago.Pitty ,one of my relations flew the SBD in combat in the pacific.
Next time I go to Ardmore and if Ross is there I will ask about the FG-1D

Quick update guys
I was in Auckland on business and managed to call into Avspecs about some mossie stuff, but at the same time met up with Ross.
I saw the Corsair still tucked in the corner of the hangar looking the same as in the pics from the 'for sale' links.
He said there had been no interest in her and some on his lovely ex RNZAF FB-5 Vampire.
So I guess that it is good for us she is still here but not for him. He said he really wants her to stay in New Zealand but there is just no interest sadly.
The work done on her so far is really nice and a credit to those engineers that did it.
Anyway there you go, hope that is of interest to you all. Fired me up to get home and get working on my 1/48 Tamiya one too!!!
Cheers
Anthony

Thanks for that update Anthony. It's good to hear that he wants it to stay in NZ. Also good to hear the workmanship is good. I hope someone with the money buys it, restores it to flight and keeps it here. There must be someone out there, post-Ray Hanna and AFC, with the will
Did he mention the price? Has it dropped at all?

Rather than give people false hope by resurrecting the "Corsair project available" thread, I thought this was the right place: photos of the NZ5503 project in the USA in late 2014. www.airport-data.com/aircraft/NZ5503.htmlI've asked on WIX if anyone knows where it is - going by my research this looks like the last potential flyer with RNZAF history.

Hi Zac, great news you are keeping up with these Kiwi Corsairs!
NZ5503 has the rear (Birdcage)fuse from Bu02270 which is being restored by Classic Jets Fighter Museum in Australia. This was removed when she still sat in the mangrove swamp on Vila.
Hope this helps why she has this early section bolted onto the Kiwi centresection.
Cheers Anthony

There was some talk on WIX back in 2014 about where the rear fuselage had come from, thanks Anthony!
"keeping up with these Kiwi Corsairs" - it's a bit demoralising unfortunately, unlike the P-40s they're rather thin on the ground. The 424 have shrunk to two flyers, three identified wrecks which may not even exist anymore (I've not looked into those under water, land only), and two collections of parts which are possibly in among the NZ5503 lot as they had Ross Jowitt's name attached.

I've often wondered if Gene would be into repainting the FG-1D Corsair at Hood into RNZAF colours if an offer was made to see if the cost could be crowd-funded.
