I watched a short clip of the F-16 on Facebook, twice, and I'm sure the commentator said it was climbing from 600 ft to 450,000 feet! Huh?

Apparently the F-16's are the Pacific Air Forces F-16 Demonstration Team based in Misawa, Japan.

Anyone used the on site parking yet? Did that flow in ok? When I received my sticker I didn't get any maps and I'm struggling to find any information. Did I miss something? I used on site parking, no worries at all although some staff seemed a little unsure at first. I'm sure they figured it out pretty quick, it was 6AM after all. :-) Small delay at 7am getting in and had to empty OPEN water bottles but sealed, new were ok. Young guy couldn't be bothered digging through my chilly bin so waved us through. :-) Great day, very well run. As always, weather caused an issue at the end but thoroughly enjoyed the show. And yeah, that F-16 display!! I personally loved the commentary, god bless America!! :-P

A big thanks to the organisers this time! Left NZPP at 5.25am and was into the pre-paid parking by 6.45. The turn off from Taylor Road to Tangimoana Rd wasn't sign posted and as I turned into Tangimoana Road noted a few cars heading down the no exit end of Taylor Road. OOPs Great day for photographers until the clouds came in later in the day. Yep the gates didn't open until 7.25 am but then allowed the enthusiasts to move around the static displays without having to work between the crowds. Again full marks for having crews by the static aircraft. I thought the RNZAF ground trade displays were well thought out and informative. Flying displays were all carried out professionally, with the odd gap in between positioning, etc, but to be expected. The US commentaries were "different" and obviously well rehearsed. Left the car park for NZPP at 4.40 pm and was home at 6.30 pm. the hold up was from Manukau through to Otaki. Looking forward to the completion of the PP2O (Peka Peka to Otaki) expressway in 2020. 1,420 photos taken, now to sort out the acceptable ones!

I bought one of the Aussie guys patches for $15 dollars. He was one of the C-17 pilots.

One of the best shows at Ohakea in years, and burying/excorcising the ghost of 2012 too. It looks like the lessons of 5 years ago were well learned. I'm just getting into my photo sort, but here is a few quick shots from Saturday to start with:

"Quality not quantity". It's better to have 20,000-30,000 happy people than 100,000 grumpy ones (if that was indeed the expectation).
The people I have talked to certainly thought it was outstanding.

What makes News? Neither TV One or TV Three 6.00pm news tonite mentioned the airshow. I guess an international airshow, with brilliant displays, and overall a large number of attendees over the two days, and some traffic congestion (especially around the lower Horowhenua) post event doesn't rate, when compared with ex-All Blacks in trouble overseas, squabbles amongst the Green Party, etc, etc. A pity I say

The show was well covered on the TV news on the Saturday, hardly a surprise they don't cover the same thing the following day is it.

And it is better for the show if the coverage is at the end of the first day - the 'announcement' about the Singaporeans gave them a nice hook too.

My best mate Mike and I went down today. A 4.00am rise for a 5.00am departure this morning, and we just go back home to Cambridge at 11.30pm, so a bloody long day. But wow, an excellent show with amazing flying, and brilliant organisation all round. Well done to the RNZAF and all their associates and volunteers, what a great job you've all done. Well down to all the visiting Air Forces and civil planes, adding to the spectacle.
Highlights in the flying display for me: - The F-16 display - first time I have seen any F-16's, and blown away. Awesome! My mouth was gaping all the way through. Thriling to finally see the legendary F-16 in action, and flown so well too. - The Black Falcons - a perfect display this afternoon, amazing precision, excellent formation flying. The beginning of something really big, for sure - The first F-18 Hornet display, that bit where he started drifting like a car - my jaw dropped! So did Mike's. I have seen a few F-18 displays now, and today that was by far the best I have ever seen.
Biggest mistake - I got on the bus from the Bulls carpark and as we were driving off to go to Ohakea I suddenly realised my camera was stillin the car. But it was 9.35am and I had been told the F-16 was flying at 10.00am... By the time we arrived at Ohakea and disembared it was 9.45am. I decided i would not go back forthe camera till after the F-16 display, as there was no way I wanted to be on a bus when it began and miss the whole thing. So... somebody changed the programme and they never made it particularly clears as to when the F-16 was actually flying. Si I watched act after act and eventually the F-16 came out just before the lunch break. By that time I was so settled and enjoying the show without the camera I decided not to even bother going to get it. So I took zero photos today! And I enjoyed the experience of watching the whole show without seeing half of it through a lens.
Biggest surprise - apart from Mike who I went with, and our old mate Steve and his girlfriend Bianca who I'd arranged to meet up with, I never saw a single person I know through the whole show (other than in the air displaying). It was not till we got on the bus at the end that I saw Wayne Bradley the first and only forum member I spotted and chatted with. So, like the experience of taking no photos, this was a first for me for many years. Usually at airshows I see dozens of friends from the forum, and while I do love catching up with friends it was really nice to just do my own thing today too with the friends I went with.
Honourable mention - I'd like to say well down to the organiser/s who came up with the brilliant idea of putting toilets in the carpark at Bulls for those of us who had just arrived from a long road trip, and the coffee cart there too for those heading off on another road trip at the end of the event. Really appreciated brainstorms. It's the wee details like this that we noticed that were much appreciated.
Well done Ohakea, you have done the RNZAF and New Zealand very proud!

Again, Jealous but happy for you guys that it all went well. "Smudge" Smeeding was the display pilot for the RAAF Townsville show. Dave, I'll scan and send you a copy of the commentary notes for the F.16 from Townsville and you can easily see why it was read out at 5,000 mph........ you simply have to read it that way to get it all done (and that without the Japanese translation as well). Avalon this weekend and Pete Hallen just told me it looks like "Clear, blue and 22", so hope everyone going there enjoys as well...... walks away head down, spiral of depression forming..........
