A helicopter pilot managed to escape uninjured after crashing into a paddock in Rotorua. The helicopter burst into flames and fire, ambulance and police were called to the scene, just after 3.30pm on Friday. The machine was reduced to a pile of ashes with only the tail rotor remaining, a New Zealand Fireservice spokesman said. "All that was left of the helicopter was ashes and metal. The helicopter was completely gone," senior station officer Jim Prescott said "Luckily it was in a paddock so that lessened the damage." There were no other occupants in the helicopter. The Civil Aviation Authority has been advised. It is gathering all the information and deciding whether an investigation is required. A decision will be made in the next 48-hours, a CAA spokesman said. - Stuff www.stuff.co.nz/national/78987097/helicopter-pilot-escapes-unscathed-after-emergency-landing-in-rotorua.html
