One killed in Lindis Pass helicopter crashUpdated 1 min ago1:56 PM Saturday Apr 30, 2016 Lindis Pass. Photo / Supplied One person has died and one person has critical injuries after a helicopter crash just east of Lindis Pass in Central Otago today. St John Ambulance spokesperson Andy Gray said one person had died, and another, a man was being transported to Dunedin Hospital with critical injuries. It had not been confirmed if the deceased person was a male or female. "The man who is injured has abdominal injuries and is critical," Gray said. Steve Rendle from the New Zealand Rescue Coordination Centre said the Otago Rescue chopper was still on the scene and another chopper was on the way. "The Aspiring rescue helicopter from Wanaka is on route with an alpine rescue team on board if it is needed," he said. The weather in the area had been described as foggy around the time of the crash. Police were alerted to the crash after an emergency beacon was activate shortly before 12.00pm. Sad news, but I've no idea why they included the picture and blurb about the Squirrel crash?

In the first version of the story on the STUFF website, they claimed it was a Robinson R22, although no evidence to back that up.
Perhaps the news media now associate a helicopter crash with a R22 in the same way they often associate plane crashes with Cessna.
And that photograph of the wreakage in the crevasse will merely have been sensationalism to make the story look good.

A person is dead and another is seriously injured. Quibbling posts about the news articles that report this news are completely beside the point. If you have an issue with the news sites, take it to them.

The Aviation safety network report the accident helicopter was Robinson Beta ZK HCB
