Hello
Interested to see the photo of Hvd1041 at Managere...I am that "J.Saunders of Blenheim, Stored" ...although 'Stored pending restoration to fly' is the intention.
Presently live overseas but still keep the Blenheim connection...and will return at some stage and get the Harvard flying.... Peter, do you have any other photos of it's ANZ time ? I've several of it's RNZAF days including a couple on 4 OTU during the War as 'OD-4' which is the final indended scheme.

Hi Mr Saunders (I assume you're a Mr), welcome to the forum. That will be excellent to see a Harvard in a 4 OTU colour scheme. Good luck with the project and please keep in touch with the forum about it, we'll all be very interested when restoration begins.

Welcome hvd1041 to the forum. I have wondered for many years ,20 plus! ,what had happened to the other Air NZ Harvard. Now I know! Are there any pictures handy that you have of the Harvard in its present state?
Would really like to hear of your plans you have for the aircraft...

Hello Thought the attached photo might be of interest...this is NZ1041 on 2 OTU at OH in 1944 (I think) - aicraft has had a bit of an 'oops' and tipped up...interesting, however are the (red I think) OD-4 Squadron codes and red cowl...which would tie up with the codes and colours used on the P-40s. I understand the OTU had Qty 4 Harvards on strength then...the rest being P-40s. Does anyone out there have any other OTU Harvard photos...or further info on the OTU Harvards ? Thanks & Rgds John. uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/jds_ilfc/detail?.dir=33ebre2&.dnm=dcb9re2.jpg&.src=ph

Hello again
Thought I'd put in another post and put this topic back on top of the pile.
Back in Blenheim presently and working away on the Harvard NZ1041...but still looking for any info on this aircraft when it was on 4(F) OTU (not 2 OTU as I put in a previous post...)
I suspect that as there were no two seater P-40s, the Qty 4 Harvards on strength were used for a bit of 'back seat' famil - prior to being let loose on a P-40...in which case it would seem pretty reasonable to paint them in a similar scheme to the P-40s.
My aircraft had the codes OD-4 down the side (in red I think) and also a red cowl...but perhaps someone here could shed some light on this ? .... does anyone have ANY 4 OTU photos.
Thanks again ... and Happy 2008.
rgds John.

Welcome back John. I think the Harvards on OTU's were also used for blind flying instrument stuff so a safety pilot could be with the pilot doing training.

Ah good old 1041. This Harvard was stored outside(!) by the technical training school(where 1044 lived indoors) at Harewood (Christchurch Airport) in the early/mid 90's. At the time I was involved with a similar example, NZ 1040 when she was owned by the (then) Confederate Air Force here in Christchurch. When we were trying to decide where something should fit on 1040 we would trot outside the hangar and peer at 1041 for conformation! Better than a manual!! ;D
