Well, this blog which I saw ErrolC point out elsewhere proves that the newspaper journalist's reporting of aviation matters has always been very poor!

It's almost like the hack journo had attended an entirely different first flight... or not bothered going at all and then gleaned his info down the pub from those who did attend. The above post is well worth a read for a great laugh.
