It was a good programme, from what I could see (the hot muggy summer weather and atmospherics continually disrupting the digital signal. This stupid new digital system isn't a patch on what it replaced in summertime). The programme is on Youtube Don, and on Choice's watch again page (even though that won't play on my computer!!).
Guy Martin's a real enthusiast and quite a character but I think he's a few sandwiches short of a picnic. Interesting to hear the old crew members talking about the Vulcan. It's worth having a watch on Youtube.

They needed subtitles for Guy at times! hes actually a very good engineer, and although he probably didnt do much "hands on" for the programme, you could tell it was something that inspired and excited him!

I missed it myself, great thing a good friend in the UK sent me a documentary 'The Vulcan Year', a great tour of the aircraft and its maintenance, Martin Withers going through the many changes, a very good friend gave me this book, simply a pictorial study of most all the Vulcan's and variants, only 129 pages but in gloss print and hard cover, well worth searching for.

Certainly a very beautiful portrait of the Vulcan there Warren, absolutely superb! Incidentally, by the wing shape, is this one of the very early aircraft? David D

I think Guy has fallen off his motorcycle one too many times! Seriously though, he is a great enthusiast as is demonstrated by the documentary of 'his' Spitfire rebuild...!

David D Yes indeed , the early Vulcan, it is a fantastic portrait, this book is just filled with them, covers the development and design, VX770 was probably the most photoed with this wing form, the new wing plan form was debuted in 1954/55, to cancel the buffeting with the higher rated engines.

How can you not like someone so passionate about his interests. Wish there were more like him.

No-one said we don't like him, he's just slightly off his rocker.

No-one said we don't like him, he's just slightly off his rocker. Sorta like the Steve Irwin was with his animals CRIKEY! Guy Martin is with grease and machines .. good subject tho, even I'd start running around like a headless chicken if had the opportunity to play with something like that ... whoops, hang on I already do.
