Yes very sad to see this happen to a beautiful aircraft. I note the news outlet has changed the soundtrack, in the original film you can hear the airshow speaker system playing the Mr. Mister song "Broken Wings"!! How ironic.

There's a video on Facebook that the Graham Hosking's F4U-5N has done a landing with gear extended. Pilot looks ok ,but aircraft has damage that precludes it flying for sometime. Look up Hunter Valley Airshow if you have FB.

Thanks Baz ! Yes, gear retracted .Keith Skilling mentioned long ago it was best to land the F4U with the Flaps up if you have no landing gear as they such a problem to rebuild. Hope the a/c can be repaired .Glad no injuries to pilot and airshow go'ers.

I think it's actually better for the aircraft to land with the wheels down. The pilot has undoubtedly learned that lesson now.

The Corsair shall be rebuilt. As I write Bernie is disassembling it for the road trip. GH has another R.2800 available and a spare prop. Yes "Broken Wings" was playing when the incident occurred and the scraping sound was quite loud. Large scars on the runway but quickly repaired with rapid set concrete. All very professionally handled and the aircraft removed relatively quickly to the main hangar. "BD" Pete Clements ok and GH philosophical. NBN News (tv) to their very great credit played down the incident when it could have been elevated having regard to the tragic loss of Peter and Enda on Austalia Day. The Ryan is not being rebuilt

Oh no, that's sad news about the Ryan, it was such a lovely example.

That is a real shame. I'm sorry to read that. Good news about the Corsair though.
And the thread title is a little odd - all WW2 Corsairs had "bent" wings!
