Had this one for a bit and after seeing all the great pic’s and clips of the pair
that visited NZ recently decided to give mine a touch up. The latest addition
to my electric ducted fan (EDF) fleet, an ultra micro F 16, these things are
very small, 295mm span and run on tiny 2 cell Lipo batteries.
You can see she comes in the USA airforce display team markings, as with most
of my RC planes will be getting a few mods and a more local flavour to her skin.
These jets come with very small fixed under cart which really can only handle
very smooth surfaces so mine will be a hand launcher and belly lander, they just
look wrong with the gear hanging underneath. So to assist with minimising the
damage to the foam I have bent up bits of wire as gear, have done this before and
it works well, can only just see it and minimal weight added.
There was only ever going to be one scheme for this one, fictitious but how
I presummed they would have looked not long after they first arrived in NZ.
I use pastels for weathering, rubbed onto a bit of fine sand paper then brushed
into all the panel lines, maybe a bit too harsh on this one, you can just wash it
off with water and go again.
I believe the Flighting Falcon just looks right with its tall fin and swept
back wings. This one is a bit different to the other EDFs in the fleet, she
has tailerons only, no ailerons.
And what’s a Fighting Falcon if it can’t fight, scratch built sidewinders.
You can see my protector gear, the underside fins, the wing tip missiles and
ordnance racks just wouldn’t survive landing on the grass without this.
The down side of these little jets in these schemes is the camo works so
you really have to be on it, think ahead never fly with the sun behind the
plane and have a large open area, they get small fast. Hopefully some flying
shots one day down the track?
