I am pleased to see my good friend and forum member Bevan Dewes has achieved another significant milestone this weekend. Already the world's youngest WWI pilot at age 23, with experience flying the Pfalz D.III, the various Be2's and the Fokker Triplanes; yesterday he went solo in The Vintage Aviator Collection's Nieuport 11. This is the first rotary engined aircraft Bevan has flown, and he joined a very small number of pilots current on flying rotary engined aeroplanes in the world. He thinks in NZ there are just 7 or 8 pilots who are current on rotaries. Congrats!! Here are some of Bevan's photos from the flight: Bevan in the cockpit with Gene deMarco. Look at those smiles! Bevan about to go solo in the Nieuport. On his way.
