This probably does not need to be mentioned for most people who are coming, but just so we're covered, just be aware that the six aircraft that are hangared in the venue hangar where we are holding this event are strictly under a "look but please don't touch" policy. We do not want to find people waggling ailerons or climbing into cockpits. If there is something you particularly wish to look at up close, ask one of the hangar owners first, and see if it is possible. Thanks everyone.
I have 36 names on the list right now so it looks like it will be a fun event.

A note from Paul McSweeny, those attending this event on Sunday are welcome to park on the grass behind the Pioneer Aero hangar, which is nextdoor to the FlyDC3 hangar, as the latter has limited car parking space. Thanks Paul!

Today is the last day for accepting names for the door list. We have 40 people confirmed, so it'll be a great gathering. If you are just making your mind up right now, let me know ASAP if you're coming.

Have a great Christmas “do” people … I'll be recovering (no doubt with a very sore head) from the end-of-season party following the final concert of Orchestra Wellington's 2017 concert season on Saturday night. Those after-parties following the final concert tend to go on into the wee hours and involve drinking huge amounts of alcohol.

OK, a last minute addition to the line up, when a few of the gang go off to fly in the DC-3 at 10.30am, the rest of us will have a presentation from aviation photographer Gavin Conroy on his recent photo shoots with jets in Britain, and maybe a few other things.
The bookings list is now closed. We have almost fifty people coming so this should be a fun day.

Thanks to all those who came, it was really great to see you all. I hope you had as excellent day as I did. Thanks very much to Gavin Conroy, Paul McSweeny and John Denton for giving such interesting presentations! And thanks so, so much to the awesome team at FlyDC3 for working so hard to make the event run smoothly, and for putting in so much effort on the awesome lunch. I'm very tired but I'm a very happy Dave!

Dave, thanks for organising a fantastic day and to the FlyDC3 team for being great hosts. Well done to all of the guest speakers for their presentations, I especially enjoyed John Denton's talk. It was great to see Pioneer's projects up close and the amazing work that they do. Hopefully the P-39 will stick around long enough for an air show appearance once it's finished. Bring on the next forum meet in March.

Really enjoyed the day. My biggest thrill was the flight in the DC3. Brought back many memories. 11th May 1974 was the last flight I had in AZL at Kaikohe. Hope to be able to attend next forum.

Yes it was good to have a bit of time for everyone to socialise rather than just sit down and listen to speakers. We actually usually try to do this when organising each event but as the date draws closer I usually get offers of a few extra speakers and slot them in here and there so the socialising time usually gets eaten up. This time we went for that different approach, time to chat and look at aeroplanes during the hangar visit and lunch. We'll try to do that in March too as there's lots to see and talk about at Classic Flyers!

Nice pics Dave, and what a venue and great staff putting on a superb luncheon! Such interesting speakers and it was good to catch up and chat with a few folk too. So enjoyed the flight in Betsy! Well done Dave!

Yes the chance to chat "live" to other forum members and the occasional veteran is certainly one of the highlights for me and we seem to be a friendly enough bunch! Tauranga is certainly one I'd like to go to with the TBFs in residence a major draw card for me.

Baz, and one of the speakers already lined up is a postwar RNZAF TBF pilot too.

is a postwar RNZAF TBF pilot too. Dave it's not Roger Dalziell is it? I don't know if you have read the articles in Aviation News about Avenger NZ2504 (by Paul Harrison) but Roger wrote a letter to the editor about engine failures. And with it was an amazing close up colour photo of Roger flying 04 taken from Devon NZ1801.
