When I was working in Rex Aviation's engine shop at Bell Block in 1966 there was a Flying Flea and engine stacked in a corner of the workshop, didn't really take too much notice of it at the time. isc

isc - The aircraft in Rex hangar was most likely the aircraft which is in the Taranaki museum now as I know of no other Fleas that were built in the Taranaki district

The Flea was completed by McMillan brothers in 1936 and flown on at least one occasion. It was displayed at a Stratford airshow in 1937 but did not fly there. In 1938 It was loaned to ER Brewster for him to further experiment with a multi-slotted wing. Whether the multi-slotted wing ( supposedly built from timber from ZK-ACU) was ever completed and fitted to the Flea is unknown. Now I am back home and can check, I agree with the above - Brian & Ian McMillan, Stratford. Scott Squirrell engine.

Well thats answered the question! Many thanks all , certainly a place to include on a Taranaki trip. Local museums seem to hold treasures at time , I recall that the Westport Coal museum had Oxford parts on display and the Nelson Wearable Arts had a sectioned Sabre engine . You just never know what is lurking .
