Dave, I can tell you they are a beautiful aircraft from first hand experience. That would be a perfect syndicate aircraft for NZ. Big warbird, fast, history, colour and movement. Nowhere near as fast as the Hornet but fast just the same.

Don't forget there's also a project in NZ to return a Vultee Vengeance back to airworthy condition too.

Nowhere near as fast as the Hornet but fast just the same. Not to take away from the Sea Hornet project but I 100% agree. A Ventura in RNZAF markings would be an amazing addition to the scene. There's been a lot of positive comment about the TT193 project at WIX and a few at the Key Forum.

With a new government you'll be lucky to have a couple of drones and a boxkite! Agree with the Ventura. I was lucky enough to be able to see the RAAF Ventura flying before it was grounded. It flew to Tasmania and I got a personal tour when I was a young boy. Spent hours looking over it and talking to the pilots. It was open for inspection but only half a dozen people came to look, mostly ex servicemen and me. First ever warbird introducton.

Oh and the Vengeance. This is the aircraft I would most like to see back in the sky and I truly hope it will stay in NZ. A seriously maligned design that has been blighted by historians. Probably the most effective and accurate dive bomber or the war - when used properly. Not to mention tough.

I have been fortunate enough to work on (and fly in one) Ventura and also Vengeance. Wonderful but that Sea Hornet.... My second fav twin (after Me262). The fact that Paul has managed to obtain the project is a world coup. I can imagine that there shall be lots of discussions between Pioneer and Mosquito Museum regarding 'borrowing' that rear fuselage portion and also whatever may exist by way of drawings. Just a wonderful project to be associated with. I can see eighteen months of consolidating and planning before anything happens. Congratulations to Paul and his crew.

He's going to cut that PV2 up for scrap if there's no buyer. Should be laws against these atrocities! Crowdfunding anyone?

And wait folks..... there is more...... Sea Hornet F.20 (TT213) operated by RAAF in Australia as A83-1 (serial not taken up) between 1948 and 1951 for trials. Was later returned to UK. You can find an ANZAC connection in just about anything if you try !

I read quite awhile back about the desire of some chaps in UK to build a DH Hornet, they seemed to be a group of enthusiasts based on the RAF Sqns. that was flying them back in Op. Firedog days in Malaya. I believe they were looking around for parts , I sent them an email of encouragement but never heard back from them... It was well before the Glyn & his Mosquito work was really 'known' about...
These terrific aircraft were of wooden AND metal construction, DH's used a glue called 'Redux' I believe to 'marry' the two materials together... Quite the 'cutting-edge' of aviation construction in that late period of piston-engined fighter aircraft, and those RR Merlin 130-131's, wow ! - The DH Hornet brought us right to the edge of the fastest aircraft of the time, along with the Tempests , Sea Fury's & Ta 152, etc. etc... ~
Well I'm real stoked to hear there is a DH Sea Hornet still out there! -Even more stoked that it's in NZ & SO STOKED that someone HERE owns it too! -Now if we could rebuild & KEEP IT HERE, it will just be so awesome! -In one stroke we will crank-up our Airshow Tourism, especially if we've a Mosquito present too, coz as an average Kiwi Avbuff it gets real soul-gouging to see all our terrific, talented restoration artisans rebuild ALL these wonderful warbirds, only to see them 'poof ', & off overseas they go with some foreign millionaire/billionaire, and we are lucky to get a return visit... And we certainly have a sh*t-load of millionaires here in NZ NOW. -I still remember how gutted I felt back when the Subritzsky Family's Spitfire XVI went off, brought by a chinese millionaire, to a museum in China - Our RAF 485 (NZ) Sqn. chaps flew them toward the end of WW2- (I know they weren't quite as good as the Mk.IX's but preserved history is History...)
Anyway, I for one are SUPER-CHUFFED to hear we have a DH Sea Hornet here, very well done to all those who achieved this, & this Kiwi is immensly proud of your chosen project and I wish you all the greatest success with this endeavour ~
Cheers, and Best Wishes to all...
