Yes, very interesting and a worthy project for Pioneer. Boy, we are fortunate in our country.

OK, there has been quite a bit of speculation since it was announced but I have to come clean......... I am now the proud owner of DH.103 Sea Hornet TT193.........die cast model ! Lovely model and beautifully presented. Think the remaining ones will be snapped up as the restoration of its big brother swings into gear.

Realistically, how viable a project is this? David Collins in the UK has been collecting/cataloguing parts for years, and hasn't really acquired much more than a cockpit....are there enough parts in existence (wheels, tyres, props, engines, instruments, etc) to complete an airworthy example? It would be a shame for it to end up like the TFC Beaufighter, which has stagnated due to (among other reasons) a lack of suitable engines......

Come to the Forum Christmas Party on Sunday JP and hear all about it from project owner Paul McSweeny of Pioneer, he's going to be giving a talk.

Thanks, Dave, but Auckland is a long way to go for a party - I'll catch up with Paul in the New Year....
Feel free to report back after the weekend!

Think the remaining ones will be snapped up as the restoration of its big brother swings into gear. I agree - when I found out it existed I was amazed! It's pretty tempting to spring for one of these when I can afford to, but I've already been gathering reference photos for a model build. Now to track down one of those Skybirds86 kits... I hope some of what Paul tells the Party attendees can be shared on here. It's such an exciting project and I'm very envious of those of you able to attend.

I would love to be there in person. Hornet is IMHO the most beautiful piston twin ever designed.

One thing that will help is lots of cash. Money can do lots in reproducing long gone parts. I doubt they would have started the project if they didn't think the engines and props etc could be had. I'm sure Paul will be able to tell you all about it.

It would be a shame for it to end up like the TFC Beaufighter, which has stagnated due to (among other reasons) a lack of suitable engines...... They actually have a pair of the correct engines for the Beau. which came with the airframe, as well as a pair of post-war Hercules. The main reason it's not progressing is lack of impetus, will and probably money.
