Hello, I'm drawing some new Avenger decals and have a couple of "tricky" questions that members may have knowledge on.... First is the text under the nose "03" on NZ2503, target tug, in the black and yellow stripe scheme. I think I see an identical three lines of text on both sides of the nose. It looks about one inch high in black letters. The other thing is any ideas about the war-time serials of the Avengers with "donald duck" and "Winged kiwi" nose art. I have drawn the nose art and will provide "plausible guesstimate" serials if thats the best that can be done. Hope you can help. Thanks in advance Malcolm Laird, Ventura Publications BTW. A final supply of Classic Warbirds - D-Day to Berlin arrived a moth or two ago and is listed at our on-line shop.

The winged Kiwi serial has been discovered, by the Classic Flyers team, who were told by John Regan that it was NZ2522. With the Donald Duck one, it says the photo is an "enlargement from PR2581". I am assuming that means a crop from that photo, so perhaps the original image reveals the serial. Worth contacting Matthew O'Sullivan and checking I think. I think the three lines on the nose of NZ2503 is probably some sort of stenciling but I cannot make out the letters.

Considering the position of the three lines of writing, I would say it is some sort of warning of a potential hot exhaust pipe... presuming the writing on the otherside is beside that exhaust pipe also?
