S/Ldr Charles Kingsford Smith's visits to New Zealand in 1928, 1933 and 1934 are well known, as each time he piloted his 'old bus', the Fokker Trimotor "Southern Cross" across the Tasman from Sydney. But I had no idea he he also visited New Zealand in November 1929. This time he came from Suva in Fiji, onboard the ship Aorangi. Here's a photo of him visiting Auckland Aero Club. This comes from the Auckland Weekly News dated the 13th of November 1929. It's via the Sir George Grey Special Collections, Auckland Libraries, AWNS-19291113-49-2.
