New members of the Royal New Zealand Air Force Black Falcons team, Flight Lieutenant Alex Joel and Squadron Leader Barry Nelson.
Air force high flyers The Black Falcons have added two new pilots to the nest, with one being an international recruit.
Flight Lieutenant Alex Joel and Squadron Leader Barry Nelson are the newest addition to the Royal New Zealand Air Force aerobatic team.
The team of six had two spots come available, so Joel and Nelson jumped at the chance to apply.
Joel is based at Ohakea as part of a three-year placement and said he was now in his final year, after which he would return to Australia to his base in Perth.
"It's really cool, the fact they were open enough to let an Australian guy into the team is awesome."
The new formation had its first public outing in November, and Joel was confidence the team would gel quickly.
"The preparation has been tailored to me being the new guy and they have done a good job."
Squadron Leader Barry Nelson, said he got back into flying in 2016 after leaving an air force role that kept him grounded.
"I think it's something not everyone gets to do."
Being the sixth member of the team, Nelson said he was not involved in the flying but provided ground support and helped organise shows they were flying in.
He hoped to get a chance in the cockpit next time a spot came up.
