Who is planning to fly in to Rangitata Island on Sunday the 1st? I hope the weather is good enough for several aircraft to fly in.
I think I forgot to mention, one of Bryan's wartime course mates, Noel Hepburn, from his Operational Training Unit course on P-40's, hopes to be at Rangitata too on the day so it'll be a great reunion for them.

Also we can announce now that Michelle Sim's talk will be on the history of No. 1 Aerodrome Construction Squadron and their time in Singapore and Malaya. This will be definitely quite fascinating.
If you have not yet registered for this event but want to come, please email me by Sunday 24th, that is the cut off date to get on the list, as I am going to be busy and travelling. All you need to do is email me at dave_daasnz@hotmail.com and let me know you (and anyone else coming with you) will be there. You'll go onto the list which will be at the door.
And we'll collect the $10.00 per person in CASH at the door. Make sure you bring a $10.00 note each so we don't have to much around with change, and there won't be EFTPOS. And bring money to buy lunch in the cafe too, or you can bring a packed lunch to eat in your car I guess, haha.

Has anyone in the Christchurch area given thought to doing a "meet and greet" role for those arriving from out of town? I will be flying in from Tauranga arriving at 8am on the Saturday and I believe there will be others about the same time from elsewhere. (Dave Atchison for example about the same time). I am happy to throw a few dollars at the driver for petrol money and as I am staying overnight (don't know where yet) I will need get back out to the airport for a 9am Sunday departure. A few more dollars to the driver.
Anyway, are there any enterprising types in Christchurch who can hold up a piece of paper/cardboard etc marked "WONZ forumites" by the arrivals area on 30 June Saturday morning 8am ish? If someone could meet me perhaps they could send me a PM. Thanks in advance guys

David A. and I are both arriving down there on the Wednesday, Bryan on the Friday. I'm not sure Peter, but you may be the only one flying in on the Saturday morning.

Drinks at the Harvard Bar at the Officers' Mess Saturday, after proceedings? Maybe not straight after, Sean Galbraith has suggested that interested people may wish to head across to the other side of the "airfield" to his Flight Simulator factory for a look around and a play.

Well the countdown is definitely on for this event now. I am really looking forward to this trip down south, catching up with friends and seeing some interesting presentations. Plus I will be doing some research in the archives at Wigram, and hope to do a little bit of other stuff too. Should be a fun few days. I fly down on Wednesday morning and do not know what kind of internet connection i may have so if anyone has last minute questions, now is the time!

Forecast for Sunday is rain and little wind. However this will hopefully change or at least have a high enough cloud base to get Bryan airborne. Even if the weather doesn't play ball the Museum the Brodies are building up is well worth a look plus we can talk aviation and check out the other aircraft on the field.

Where is your forecast from Baz? Metvew is showing Canterbury as clear for Saturday and Sunday.

By the way, for all those who plan to attend the flight at Rangitata Island, Andy Love is aiming to make the flight around mid-morning, aiming at approximately 10.00am, weather permitting, so make sure you're up bright and early. He also says usually when the weather can be bad in Christchurch and Timaru, Rangitata Island is usually still pretty fine, in its own micro climate.

Where is your forecast from Baz? Metservice. This far out the weather can change so fingers crossed Metview is the correct forecast.

I never trust Metservice, they are almost always wrong in their long range forecasting

I haven't found them to be too bad at least for Canterbury but possibly more general in their forecasting. Had a look at Metvuw and there is quite a weather system moving in but the East coast of the South Island looks clear. Think the weather gods are going to be on our side! 😊

As one last minute bonus addition to the line up, I can now confirm we have two representatives from NASA coming to the event - David Fedors and Paul Newton, who are NASA SOFIA Boeing 747 Research Pilots!! They will give us a talk about their unique Boeing 747, SOFIA, which is a flying telescope platform. Fantastic!
