Very cool, but does it have the all important Madame Cholet sticker on the nose?

Very nice gaggle. Question: when did the Queen's Flight NZ3551 get the roundels with Kiwi centres?

Probably 1970 like all the other RNZAF aeroplanes. She visited here three times in the 1970's while the Dakota was still the main VIP aircraft. She was in New Zealand 12–30 March 1970 (which may have been just before the Kiwi roundel was introduced?), 30 January – 8 February 1974 for the Commonwealth Games, and 22 February – 7 March 1977 just before the Andovers arrived from Britain. So it is possible she may have flown in the Dakota with the Kiwi roundels, however it does not really matter if she didn't as it was still the Royal Dakota.

This Dakota was Struck Off Charge on the 24th of January 1978, which is when the RNZAF Museum got her.

Very cool, but does it have the all important Madame Cholet sticker on the nose? It amazes me that I spent so long round this Dakota in the 1980s and never noticed this detail! And of course it was the Forum that educated me. I even had to go have a look to make sure someone wasn't pulling my leg!

I remember not only noticing it many years ago but also completely recognising it because my little sister had exactly the same sticker on her lunchbox when we were at school, and I had the Great Uncle Bulgaria sticker on mine. From memory the stickers came with either loaves of bread or maybe Walls "Crazy Joe" ice blocks in some promotion. Not sure which now.

Correct in that in their last days, all six Dakotas had womble names.
