I just don't understand this, with all the things NZDF should be spending money on, why this? NZDF to begin repatriation mission in Fiji17:28 Fri Apr 20, 2018 Report by: Maggie Boyle The repatriation of New Zealand Defence Force personnel buried around the world after 1 January 1955 will begin officially in Fiji next week as part of project Te Auraki known as the return. Other than Fiji, there will also be a repatriation from American Samoa. Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) Secretarial Officer Flight Lieutenant George Beban and Fireman Leading Aircraftman Ralph Scott will be dis-interred at Suva Military Cemetery following a graveside blessing ceremony on 23 April. George and Ralph died of natural causes while based at the RNZAF station in Laucala Bay. The NZDF will deploy a dis-interment team of bio-archaeologists, forensic anthropologists and odontologists (dentists) drawn from universities and forensic experts across New Zealand. The team will be led by a NZDF doctor, once the remains have been identified, the service personnel being repatriated will never be left alone, with a continuous vigil by NZDF personnel until they are handed over their families on their return to New Zealand. An NZDF Chaplain, Kaumatua, Kuia, and Maori cultural advisers will be travelling with the NZDF contingent to ensure the remains will be returned to New Zealand using contemporary cultural, religious and military protocols. The fallen personnel are due to return to New Zealand to be handed over to their families at a ceremony planned for May 7th. www.fbc.com.fj/fiji/62604/nzdf-to-begin-repatriation-mission-in-fiji
