Firefighters scramble as Hercules aircraft shuts down engineLast updated 15:21, May 1 2018 Firefighters were called out to Auckland's military airbase after a C-130 Hercules experienced engine trouble. A Defence Force spokesperson said the Hercules experienced a technical problem with one of its four engines, which was shut down as a precaution. The aircraft returned to Whenuapai and landed safely on May 1. Fire and Emergency NZ communications shift manager Paul Radden said they were called to the Royal New Zealand Air Force base in Whenuapai at 1.20pm. As it was a defence force aircraft, the information the fire service could provide was limited, he said. "I can't tell you the nature of the problem or people on board . . . but I can tell you it landed safely with no issues." The Defence Force spokesperson said the aircraft's engine would be checked. - Stuff www.stuff.co.nz/auckland/local-news/north-harbour-news/103527263/firefighters-scramble-as-hercules-aircraft-shuts-down-engine
