Thoroughly enjoyable. A sobering and worthy tribute - not just to the machine but those who flew them into danger and were part of its legacy.
Beautifully captured on screen, sensitively conducted interviews, some unique war footage, and a hidden surprise gem!
The Supermarine Spitfire, the legacy that has become so much more than an aeroplane is succinctly summed up by current owner-pilot of MKVIII MT928: "Grace and Gallantry"
See it before it's gone from the big screen

I am looking forward to seeing this tomorrow, at NZ Warbirds, for their very special evening screening. I am heading up with fellow forum member Ian Bisset and we're taking WWII Spitfire pilot John Wall with us. John will be a special guest at the event. I think it should be a really super event!

Yes Johnnyfalcon, Obiwan27, my wife Teresa and myself all sat enthralled by this movie. Beautiful visuals plus some humour from the veterans. Some very moving moments which I will let you discover made all the more poignant knowing that three of the pilots on the screen had only recently passed away. And not just Spitfires too too. Stunning just stunning.

I saw this movie at a preview at Wellington's Penthouse Cinema, and can highly recommend it. There's very little commentary, but rather the narrative unfolds through the voices of those who flew the Spitfire and a range of contemporary sources. Filmed in 2016, it seems, the stars are the plane itself and the men and women interviewed who had flown the Spitfire. Do the maths; they must be in their late 90s. And indeed, one newspaper report I read said that very few are still alive, only two years later.
This movie probably won't hang around. Make every effort to see it on the big screen before it goes. The story is wonderfully told.

I might see how the P-40 looks from the fence tomorrow evening. I saw the move last weekend at Rialto Newmarket. Very good, gorgeous footage and well edited. I noted that Peter Jackson provided some of the Schneider Trophy recordings.

Just home from watching it. Very moving and a wonderful tribute to the aeroplane and all those associated with designing, building, flying and maintaining them. A lovely ending too.

Brilliant, brilliant! The best aerial photography I have ever seen (John Dibbs in charge), immaculate shots of beautiful aircraft set amongst stunning cloudscapes, over the White Cliffs, against steely seas and green fields ... you have to see it, and probably buy the Blu-ray as well for regular replays.

Superb tribute to the men and women who flew this aircraft. Wonderful, evocative filming that showed the aircraft in most of its guises to its best. Interviewing the few remaining veterans made this film into something that you can truly consider a masterpiece. The historical background, development and entry into service pretty much took care of itself. The veterans input was essential in bringing across the human story behind the aircraft and its operation. When the dialogue turned to the outbreak of war in Europe, I liked that the aircraft were filmed around Dover and the famous lighthouse at Beachy Head. A neat tie into to history. In addition the 3 early mark Spitfires in a 'vic' formation, including one in the markings of one of Alan Deere's aircraft. It was a nice hat tip to blend of young men who were flying in combat from various Commonwealth and other countries. Well worth the time of anyone with even a passing interest in aviation or history.

Not quite Ken, it was in the markings of KL-A, from his Squadron. Al Deere's aircraft was KL-B. We'll see the return of that scheme in a few months time as the BBMF "Baby Spit" will soon be paying tribute to Al Deere.

No, apparently she no longer flies the Spitfire, although her son Richard does.

I believe the Seafire XVII in the UK is/was flown occasionally by a woman. Not technically a Spitfire, and is being repaired after a landing incident.....

That was the only negative in the movie for me - no mention of the Seafire (other than detailed coverage of Spitfires flown off carriers to station at Malta, and 1 visible Seafire on the ground among Spitfires at an air show)

I saw this last night at the Regent in Te Awamutu. Absolutely fantastic. For those in the Waikato, it is still screening there for another week.
