The Nelson Provincial Museum has a collection of photos online that were taken by a local Nelson studio during WWII and there are well over 1000 photos that come up when you search "Air Force". These are terrific records of the airmen and WAAF's who worked at or passed through RNZAF Station Nelson. I have recognised a small number of them but you may find people you know too. collection.nelsonmuseum.co.nz/objects?query=%22Air+Force%22&limit=21

Hi Dave, thanks for the link to this fascinating collection. I note that the Nelson studio also did copy work, i.e. photographing original photos to make duplicates. See: collection.nelsonmuseum.co.nz/objects/112740Sqn Ldr Valentine Allport DFC, who died in the UK in March 1944. The "tell" for such photo prints duplicated onto negative is the roughed-up baseplate the photos sit on during the process. I've noticed a few duplicated photos in the collection showing this baseplate. Cheers Rod

For example, the following man (Robinson, in Air Force uniform 1940) looks familiar, but I cannot place him: collection.nelsonmuseum.co.nz/objects/114986Among other things, I'm working on the basis that the most-likely reason for someone getting a photograph duplicated either during or shortly after the war was to preserve the image of a relative or loved one who died. Cheers Rod

Yes, probably so other family members each could have a copy.
