Dave, How long will it be before downloads of your artwork (above) appear on overseas websites, etc, advertised as the genuine article? David D

Probably anytime soon, but if anyone falls for that they're an idiot as it is a pretty rough colourisation.

Hi Dave, That is really really nice - I like it, its one of those photos that I could frame and hang on the wall Yes I know its not actual, but still looks good none the less I so wish during WWII (at least) that our RNZAF Camera people had a colour film to record our Air Force in colour like this. Thanks for posting it Regards Alan

Evidence of global warming since the grass was a lot greener in the 1940s

OK, I can now confirm that this photo and all the others you see of No. 14 (Fighter) Squadron's P-40's in the three-ship formation like this, and also the ones of all their P-40E's and Harvards lined up on the apron, were in fact taken at Whenuapai, and not at Ohakea as I had assumed. I thought that the squadron left Masterton and called into Ohakea where they left their P-40E's behind to join No. 2 (F) OTU there, and then re-equipped with P-40K's and M's when they arrived at Whenuapai. However that is not the case, these photos were taken while after they arrived at Whenuapai in February 1943.
So that date of that odd colour scheme is February 1943 for sure. It was possibly added to the aircraft as a trial at Whenuapai, and maybe the photo flight was done to compare the old and the newly proposed schemes?

I have come across this later photo of NZ3007. Sorry I do not have a reference for it. The fuselage roundel is now a 'ZA' version (To quote Cliff Jenks JAHSNZ March 1983) plus a small white band around the fuselage, not unlike the marking on Hudson NZ2001 while with 10 Sqn/1(B) OTU (RNZAF The First Decade). Also a Pacific Fin Flash and the aircraft appears to be a single colour?
I'll also put this on the P-40 Pile for completeness.
