I am currently looking into the RY-3/Liberator C.IX (the tall-tailed PB4Y-2 transport derivative). Seem the last Liberator flight from Sydney the San Diego was flown by C.IV, JT993 in Dec 1945. It was been photographed in Whenuapai.
Wondering if anyone has photos and more information about this, or any other, Liberator C.IX that flew through NZ.

Juanita - have sent you contact information for a pilot that flew these and lives in Auckland.

An impressive looking beast with that massive fin, it has had the "Partial Privateer" treatment, including rotating the engine cowls through 90 degrees. Have seen neither of those photos before. David D
