I think what you mean to say is "this movie adaptation of a successful series of books aimed at young adults doesn't really appeal to me, but I hope lots of people go and see it, so Peter Jackson can make plenty of money to continue financing his aviation/model interests"..... Nope, I meant what I said. It looks like crap. Harsh Dave...It might be crap but if all the mindless youths are enamoured by PJ's skills and it pays well, then I'm not gonna complain if he decides to spend it on more of the stuff I like. So in a round-about way, 'thank you' to the modern gen...

Yep, looks like it from those 3d images. Sad thing is, much of that interior detail will be lost once the fuse is closed up. I dunno, with the size of the model and the transparencies a lot of that will be visible. Zoukei-mura does the genuinely invisible stuff

This 1/32 scale version will be nothing compared to the 10(?) 1/1 scale kitsets made for the movie. Dad went for a morning walk round the block to Hood aerodrome with the dog and was greeted by this (that wasn't there the day before) rnzaf.proboards.com/thread/9121It's hard to believe that was nine(9) years ago!

It will undoubtedly be THE best Lanc kit on the planet and the CAD renderings and now the plastic look phenomenal.
The price will be eye-wateringly high though. I've heard it bandied about that this will most likely be around the $US500 mark price-wise, so perhaps don't let slip to the missus. And you'll also need to kick one of the kids out of his room to sleep on the sofa so you'll have somewhere to put it!

At least it will be made in New Zealand and Kiwis won't have to pay the extortionate overseas postage rate on the huge box. Actually does WNW still have free worldwide postage?

I'm just hoping in some way that this new release is somehow aligned with a go ahead with PJ's Dambusters remake.
Not anymore Dave.

It won't be made in NZ.
Its moulded in an asian country and possibly packed here.
The price in NZ is the same as the rest of the world, global markets and all that.

Really? Its only marginally bigger than a Felixstowe, and that is only USD269...
Even with a couple of extra engines, and some turrets, there to 500 bucks is a big leap....

Far, far more internal structures and consequently far, far more parts. More parts = more plastic. More plastic = more money.

Just announced by Richard Alexander that it should be a similar price to Felixstowe/Hansa Duelist kit - so hopefully in the vicinity of $350-400 US...

They need to do a Vildebeest, you'd see all the interior in that

I'm in Melbourne for a few days. Two of the models shops have 1/32 Lancaster bodies on display - one clear one solid. Boy they are big in the flesh.

Of course the other big announcement recently was the 1/32 Handley Page 0/400 they plan to release. Both these big bombers will be amazing. I don't do modelling these days but I always enjoy looking at other people's models, and both these will be epic.

I'm not an O/400 fan - I prefer the Vimy, but I imagine I'll want the HP should one ever fly! - but, as always, it's a gorgeous-looking kit and I'm very excited to see everyone else's builds. I'm in Melbourne for a few days. Two of the models shops have 1/32 Lancaster bodies on display - one clear one solid. Boy they are big in the flesh. That will be the Hong Kong Models kit, announced in 2014 or so - I think you can pay more for a kit with clear fuselage halves, I'm not totally sure they're in every box: www.hk-models.com/hkm/1-32-lancaster-mk-1-in-the-show/

Why would Wingnut commit to such a large and expensive project when HK already had one on the way?

Why would Wingnut commit to such a large and expensive project when HK already had one on the way? To make money for WnW. The HK one only makes money for HK. Along the same lines of why do Toyota make cars when Honda does to...

Not a good analogy considering the market demand versus R&D costs. Much bigger pie.
This scale has a small market and this kit will sell at a prohibitively high retail price for many but the committed modeler with the space for it. The enormous expense in developing and manufacturing such a detailed and accurate piece makes me wonder about the commercial sense of this choice of subject when there is already another competing for the pie. That's all.
Beautiful though.
