There's very, very tragic news on the grapevine from down South - fingers crossed that it's not true...

So sorry to hear another of Tim Wallis' sons has died. And so soon after the other one. My condolences to family and friends of those who died. Just awful.

My goodness...I saw a very short item on the TV news at lunchtime while at work and checked out the various news sites but it was too early for much detail.
I feel so very sad for the Wallis family. How unspeakably awful.

Condolences to the family; an absolute tragedy.
Too early to know the cause of course, and no doubt the rumour-mill is already circulating, but the NZ Herald's statement that 'What appears to be the tail section is more than 100m away' (even allowing for 'journalistic licence'), seems a tad unusual..

(TAIC) senior communications advisor Simon Pleasance said investigators had removed the wreckage from the site and taken it to the organisation's Wellington technical centre where forensic work would continue over several months.
Investigators had not uncovered any obvious cause and it was their role to consider all possible causes, he said.

Terribly sad times for all families involved, RIP.

Word of warning - no unfounded supposition or criticism of those involved in the incident or the aftermath please.

Hmmm yes that came through my email notifications from CAA this afternoon, and I suspect not coincidentally.

That won't be a popular view, but I'm glad it's been said. Still far too much cowboy behaviour going on in the industry. The industry is undercapitalised, margins are too low and barriers to entry are virtually non-existent. Almost a guarantee of a bad safety rate.
