Wasn't Pete Tolhoek part of your Avenger team? He'll be there too. Shame Ken (Obiwan27) isnt there as with me as well we almost have the first Avenger restoration team at the forum. Must remember to get a photo with Paul in front of the TBF, with Pete.

Thanks so much to everyone who came along to today's Wings Over New Zealand Forum Meet at the Air Force Museum of New Zealand. Special thanks to W/C Brett Marshall, Michelle Sim, Louisa Hormann, Nathan Bosher, Andrew Love, Buck Harrison, Alexander Liggett, Barry Lennox and Paul Harrison for all your contributions toward the event's success. We had a great crowd, many who flew down from the North Island and came from far and wide to be there. And it was specially awesome for me to have such great friends there as Bevan Dewes , Lucy Claire Newell, Ross Brodie, Alex Ingrosso, and Pete McCombe come support it. So tired now. Thanks again everyone

Hi Dave, many thanks for the opportunity to do a presentation. Noting the time constraints, perhaps at the next forum I could do "part two" of my career 1980 - 2000 cheers to all that attended, a great day

Must remember to get a photo with Paul in front of the TBF, with Pete. Sorry I was unable to get to the forum meet, given it coincided with Father's Day. It would have been great to catch up with Paul and Peter again after all these years. Sounds like everyone had a blast. Well done Dave for organizing such a terrific event and all those who generously gave up their time to contribute to its success.

Paul, for sure, we'd love to see Part Two in the future. Sorry we had to rush you at the end but sadly the time limits were being pushed too much and the schedule was slipping well back. As it was the aim to end at 4pm went well past and it was after 5pm when we finally got everyone out of the museum so the poor staff could close up.

I am almost recovered from the big weekend in Christchurch! What a wonderful Forum Meet it was. I have had so many great emails, messages and face to face thank yous from people who enjoyed it. We shall have to do another one at Wigram in the future I am sure!
In the meantime I am working on a couple of other ideas for meet ups too...

Here are some photos, a mix of ones I took and ones that Phil Treweek took (our unofficial official Forum Meet photographer, haha). I will initial who's photos are who's. DH DH - The day started with the lights on full in the Aircraft Hall for the Cockpit Experience laid on by the museum or those who wanted to take part, so an opportunity to snap some well lit aeroplanes DH - The cockpit exprenience underway DH - Richard Wesley in the Spitfire DH - one of my best friends, and WONZ Forum member, Bevan Dewes was with us DH - The Forum Meet was not just a Canterbury affair, people flew down from Auckland, Tauranga, Masterton and Cambridge. But Canterbury local Lucy Newell, seen here in the Spitfire, was actually home all the way from Canada where she is flying as a bush pilot! Great to see her again. DH - Bevan and Lucy discuss the Spitfire DH - The view along the nose of the Spitfire looking towards the P-40, where P.J. Smith is showing Phil Treweek the cockpit DH - The Hudson!! The Dakota. Andrew Brian of the Helicopter Museum waiting his turn in the Spitfire there on the left DH - Inside the P-40E DH - What a view! DH - Me in the tiny Macchi cocpit DH - The Macchi's rear cockpit DH - The Macchi's front cockpit which I sat in DH - Bevan right at home in the Kittyhawk, he flies a Warhawk these days DH - Bevan and the gunsight DH - Lucy in the cockpit DH - Lucy

DH - Bevan, Lucy and I met guide Chris Checketts, , son of the great fighter ace Johnny Checketts. He is a guide at the museum now, just as his father Johnny was. The mangled Rolls Royce Merlin engine came from Johnny's personal aircraft which he shot down 13 enemy aircraft in before baling out of it. This was recovered from the crash site in France a few years ago and Chris arranged for it to come to New Zealand and go on display at the museum. Chris says research has found that only one other Spitfire ever shot down more aircraft, 14, but they were shot down by multiple pilots using the aircraft. So Johnny's Spitfire was the highest scoring Spitfire flown by one pilot, and it's amazing to see its engine still existing, albeit mangled. Most of the rest of the aircraft burned up. DH - one more cockpit, the Vampire PT - P.J. Smith, the museum's Planewright, with myself, Lucy and Bevan on the P-40E's wing PT - (Phil's portrait-oriented photos seem to want to all lie landscape, and refuse to display the right way sorry). Baz Tod photographing Johnnie Fallon in the cockpit of the Mustang. Where's your photos Baz? PT - Admiring the P-40E PT
