Air New Zealand has "big ambitions" to fly a new fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliners between Auckland to New York, the airline's boss says.
Speaking in Auckland on Monday Air New Zealand chief executive Christopher Luxon said it had eight firm orders for new Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners.
The order has a list value US$2.7 billion (NZ$4.12b) however, Air New Zealand negotiated a significant discount on current list prices and would not disclose the actual price it paid.
GEnx engines will power them, a move away from the problem plagued Rolls Royce engines used on the airlines B787-9 aircraft.
