I am now arranging the next WONZ Forum Meet, which will be our annual WONZ Christmas Party.
This year with Jessica Cooper not having been well we have decided rather than hosting it at the Fly DC3 Hangar at Ardmore as usual, we'll instead do one more local to me, so for the first time we'll be having a WONZ event at Te Kowhai Aerodrome, Hamilton. I have thought about doing something there for ages and this seems the perfect opportunity because Te Kowhai gets better and better every time I go there, and they now have a function space that we can hire. It's also the perfect place for aviation fans to spend a summer's day. There are lots of WONZ Forum Members who are local tote airfield and they'll hopefully make their aeroplanes available for viewing, etc. And of course Te Kowhai now has the historic Douglas DC-3 ZK-AZL there as a resident and you will be able to get up close and go inside her. Here are some details:
Date: Sunday 8th of December 2019
Time: 10.30am to about 4.00pm
Venue: Te Kowhai Aerodrome, 172 Limmer Road, RD8, Te Kowhai, Hamilton
Tickets: $20 per Adult, $10 per child under 16 (Yes, well behaved kids looked after by safety-conscious parents will be welcome.)
Book through me by emailing me at dave_daasnz@hotmail.com
We will have a couple of speakers.
Dave Starr who was both loader-driver and pilot for ZK-AZL, so I reckon a really fitting talk with AZL being right there!
Des Gyde who was an RNZAF Helicopter Crewman. He will talk about how he got into aviation and his RNZAF experiences and some private flying highlights since RNZAF retirement in 1995.
Mel Salisbury talking about next year's Spitfire Trail tour
We will have a sausage sizzle on the BBQ, and some salad, like chips and dip, etc. for lunch, or you're welcome to bring your own packed lunch. It's basically a Kiwi Summer Picnic.
And of course there's the option of flying in if the weather is good. I already know two Harvard pilots who are looking at bringing Harvards down for this!
Anyway, if you have any suggestions or questions, fire away. And if you'd like to go on the ticket list, let me know.
MAKE SURE YOU MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!
