A very good point Ron, and one I didn't consider when creating the thread.

Just a minor point. There’s no denying the world leading quality of and the universal interest in Avspecs Mosquito restorations. However, the majority of their projects have been of an imported airframe for an overseas owner. Admittedly now all of them may well have some genuine de Havilland parts built-in that were sourced within NZ, but I don’t think enough to endow NZ heritage. So, until it’s known what identity this latest project will be and together with new discussion here about the People’s Mosquito I wonder if this thread qualifies to be included in the “Preserving New Zealand Aviation History” Board. I do not see it that way Ron. The six airworthy Mosquito projects are being or have been completed by New Zealanders in New Zealand. Avspecs is totally a New Zealand company. Each of the projects have used NZ-sourced parts and components, old and new. And three of the Mossies are ex-RNZAF including this one as far as the word goes as to its identity. So the Avspecs Mosquito projects will all stay in this board and not the foreign aviation preservation board.

Fair enough. I wasn’t suggesting that discussion about Avspecs belonged in the Overseas Board, just that there can be a difference between the preservation of NZ’s aviation past and that of preserving aviation history in NZ. I agree Avspecs does both. I still think if there’s to be ongoing discussion here on this thread about The People’s Mosquito then that topic deserves a separate thread, if one hasn’t already been created.

The only mention till your post was a clarification that the BBC item was not connected to this Avspecs project.

The only mention till your post was a clarification that the BBC item was not connected to this Avspecs project. The BBC as is good as it is can be a bit focused on what England and the English are doing. Last year before the Queen died, Newhub's (TV3) were out on the Salisbury Planes with UK Army training Ukranians on guns. Lisette Rayner was there interviewing the instructors who happened to be kiwi's and the Ukranian recruits. A few days later, a similar item appeared on the BBC-World Service obviously taken on the same day but with no mention of who was doing the training.

Salisbury Plains is a huge training area. Terry "Doc" Matin lives just inside the area near a small village. While I was visiting there were tanks travelling all around the place and it sounded like a WW.II movie. There is a grass airfield just on the next hill where you can see paratroops training most days. He says that often there are Hercs doing LAPES drops that fly extremely low just out the backyard of his place. Terry owns a Wasp helo that he flies at UK airshows. Great guy
