On its feet now, attached the slats early because I was sick of thinking I had knocked the rails off. And the flash does horrendous things to the paint scheme.... Skyhawks are delicate little buggers once final assembly starts! Anyone know what colour the slat rails were? Gold, black, natural metal?

The slat tracks were chrome plated on the real thing (including the gold Skyhawk).

Stunning. I always preferred the T-Birds and I especially like the gold one you are doing such a great job on.
Cheers for the update

Gettin there. Tanks for the memories as they say Tanks and UC stuff all on now, just the cockpit to finish and probe to add. Am I the only one who hasn't managed to get any Skyhawk nosegear retraction strut to fit properly and given up on it? The bay opening just isn't wide enough. I had the same problem on the Fujimi A-4E/F kit. Incidentally, the 150 gal tanks as supplied in the Hasegawa F-9 kit are different lengths One is about 1.5mm shorter (or longer, I'm not trying to establish a definitive measurement system for drop tank measurement here!) than the other, the extra/lesser length being in the tank midsection. Didn't see that coming, took ages to figure it out and get them lined up properly....

Wow, that just gets better and better Sam. Well done.
Who makes the decals for that? I rememebr making the gold T-bird way back in 1989 when I was at 4TTS, Woodbourne. I got the decals from somewhere but I don't recall where. It looked ok but not as nice as your's. I ended up giving it away to a fellow airman who took a real shine to the model.

And we're done! ;D Not sure why the canopy looks out of alignment here, it is definitely straight in real life. The nose striping isn't accurate, but looks kinda cool anyway! And in the company of its more sensibly dressed siblings: I have to agree with comments made in an earlier thread about the Model Alliance decals, they appear to only have had the most basic research put into them, as well as being slightly undersize. This was most noticeable with the fuselage and tail striping. Aligning one part correctly threw all the others out. The southern cross on the tail should be a little bigger as well. They also seem to have missed the black sections of the wings (not mentioned in the instructions), and the fact that '56 only ever had 150gal tanks in this scheme. So while its great that they put them out, they could have done better . Still really happy with the way it turned out despite all of that! Thanks Don for the advice about the slat track colouring, and everyone else for the good words. On to the next thing!

That looks very nice indeed, and with the others it makes a nice set. All you need now is one in the ex-RAN grey scheme.
Sometime in the future could you please take some shots of the gold one outdoors in the sun? That would look cool.

That is quite an impressive line up you have. It almost could be the day in April 1987 when 19 A-4's were on the line together at Ohakea and flew in the big 30 jet formation. They included the gold TA-4, and a bare metal one that was straight out of the paint shop - now that is a challenge for you modellers - to model all 19 airframes!

Great work Mumbles, I really like how your B & H scheme T-Bird's turned out.
And really nice collection of A-4Ks, are you going to be displaying them on bases?

Sometime in the future could you please take some shots of the gold one outdoors in the sun? That would look cool. Sure..... ;D Took a little while to coincide me being at home with a sunny day... As ever, thanks to all for the compliments. Smithy, no they are not going on bases as such, altough they probably would fit neatly into a 1/12 car display case! Still a few schemes left to do, really looking forwards to the new Gekko Graphics 1:72 sheets I keep hearing about. Course I still have the Hase 1:48 K with the Kiwi Resins cockpit in my stash....
