No the police don't own the Police "Eagle" helicopters... I believe they are leased from Airwork. Makes sense, the Police are experts in Policing, Airwork are experts in aircraft operation.

If the police owned their own helicopters they would probably be Brantleys.
God save us from government requisitions. I heard another scary story yesterday about our fleet of fire rescue vehicles. LAV's, Ships, the list goes on....

Just a heads-up, I've heard on pretty reliable authority that a Russian helicopter is going to be arriving at Ardmore sometime on Saturday for maintenance work. It might possibly be one of the Mils from Taupo, but I'm under the impression that it could also be a Kamov KA-32 or similar, something not normally seen in NZ. Might be of interest for photography?

A Ka-32? Can;t wait to see shots of that! I remember seeing a couple of shots of a Kamov in the publication NZ Rotary Wings from 1995.

Sorry I missed the landing. It is going to the Antarctic to do a job. Keep an eye out as it flies south to Christchurch. Cheers

There is an old saying that the only reason helicopters fly is that they are so ugly the earth repels them, this must fly really well.

Geez, that christmas tree on top looks like an engineers worst nightmare. Tracking and balancing looks like a bit of a challenge, but I guess it is easier than what it looks. Is there any members that can give us a run down on the whirly bits and servicing side.

That's a great shot of the Spitfire Colin. The sky is almost the same azure blue as under the aircraft!
