I noted while looking at the August 1981 NZ Wings there's a photo of a chap called Ken Asplin, who was president of the Microlight Association of New Zealand, and the Waikato chapter of MANZ.
I wonder, was he a memebr of the Asplin family who had all the ex-RNZAF aircraft at Rukuhia? Anyone know?
I'm just curious.

Hi Dave, Well I guess any reply is better late than never, even if its more than 12 years late! To answer your question "was he a member of the Asplin family who had the ex-RNZAF aircraft at Rukuhia? Yes he was. I believe he was a grandson. I worked/flatted with Ken in Cronulla, Sydney in the late 1980s about the time he acquired a microlight flying school at "The Oaks" near Camden south of Sydney. Not long afterwards he and a student were killed in the crash of a Thruster in which he was instructing. Back home in Oz have the date and circumstances surrounding the accident but am unable to provide further details at present.
P.S Only just discovered this thread.
