Wow, congratulations Darren! I wish you luck.
Just remember the first three months are the worst, after that it is plain sailing. Try to keep in touch and tell us how you're progressing.
Where are the cracker stackers trade trained now since Hobby is closed? Ohakea?

Dave, they are trained at WB, along with everyone else.
I wonder how many others will be on your course? I think this one might be a decent size, after years of only having three at a time come through.
Good luck, work hard and don't let Soaps (Arm instructor at the school) give you too much sh*t.

Any other armourers?
SGT Mark 'Soaps' Soper is the guy. No doubt you'll be calling him SGT, not Soaps, at least until you pass your course.

Darren, do they have internet access at GSTS (or whatever they call the recruit school at Woodbourne now?) or do you have to go into town to log on. How's the course going?
Are there any Safety and Surface Workers in your intake?

Well you wont be seeing anything of Soaps after all, he's off to Timor next week then posted to OH.
SGT Rodney Regan is replacing him at the school. You'll be his first mechs course.
I hope all the armourers are passing their recruit course. Any females this time?

Female Armourers? That never happened in my days.

We've had a few over the years. One is just finishing her mechs course in the next couple of weeks. Two of the girls on the latest Air Force challenge visit were really keen, whether or not they follow through or are herded into something else by the recruiters is yet to be seen.

There's not many of the traditionally female trades left for them now I guess, typists, librarian. telephone operators, Mess stewards, etc all gone by the wayside. The world's a changing place, now they're blowing stuff up with the boys.

Now the "Force" has been taken out of the Air Force there can't be much left for the gun plumbers to do!

Perhaps another job to keep the Armourers busy could be you could invest in a large loud noon-day gun to be fired at 12:00pm every day, just to really annoy Monte Holbrook if he still lives nextdoor. ;D

Well done Darren! It's a great feeling to march off that parade ground knowing you've made it, isn't it? Good luck with the next pahse of training.
