Paul, Good to know to help problem solve in future. As I don't have the 'accel pack' (might get it soon) that problem may have been in my future - until now. Thanks. ;D

Hey fellas, Yeap, we are still going strong ;D Our Team structure has changed quite a bit since we first started, but all is going well. We now have a brand new website which will be filled with screenshots and videos in the near future. Check it out - www.virtualredcheckers.com We are also planning on having a virtual airshow in June, which will be announced on the ARNZ X Forum shortly.... standby for more! Cheers, Max Checkers 1 Virtual Red Checkers

Hi Max, it's great to see that you guys are still around and still a team.
I like your new website. It's great to read the team biographies. It's interesting that most of you are looking towards a career in the RNZAF soon, maybe some of you will end up flying in the real team in the future.
Are you related to the more famous airshow perfoming Hanna family? Please let us know when you're doing that airshow and how we can look in, if possible.

Hi Dave, Cheers for the comments. And yes, that is the long-term goal! Getting a taste of the checkers earlier this year has definitely focused my sights on it even more so. Sadly, no. I must look into this famous Hanna family though, as it's not the first time someone has asked me that! I can't post any firm details at the moment as it is still in the planning process, but I will be sure to let you know in this forum when things are announced.

The late Kiwi Ray Hanna was probably the most famous airshow display pilot/film pilot in the world in his time. His late son Mark was probably the second most famous.

Only just seen this topic now that I am a member on here. Good to see that there is some real interest in the FlightSim community on here I am not sure if Max is still coming onto these forums, but I have been 'working' with him for a couple of years now after I had the idea of starting up the Virtual Red Checkers. We have had a break for a few months now, but we are likely to get back up in the 'air' very soon. So yes , we are still going for people that are interested . If there is interest on here I will try to post any pictures and video that we may create over the next while. This is a very short video that I made a few months ago, just of a mirror and Spag Break. But through our practices we try to perform the full checkers routine to the best of our ability Regards Antony

Very well done. So is it difficult performing formation aeros on a flat screen with out the benefit of peripheral vision? I presume like the real team one flies the routine and the others focus (focus people!! Sorry couldn't resist) on the leader/wingman. I have tried seros myself on FSX but can't imagine trying it in formation.

Great stuff Antony, I really liked that clip. Please do post any photos and video clips from the team, I enjoy the virtual Red Checkers almost as much as the real Red Checkers.
Have you tried the night routine, like the Checkers did in 2009 at Omaka?
I hope Max is still around. It would be good to get the whole team on here.

I have tried seros myself on FSX but can't imagine trying it in formation. Thanks Baz It is a real challenge yes , as you say the vision factor can become a bit of a problem for formation aeros - which is why I and a few of the guys have 'Track IR'. TrackIR is basically a clever bit of kit that you wear on your headset , that picks up your true head movements in real life. So if you want to zoom in and see gauges, look over the dash on landing, look straight up in a mirror - whatever movement you do in real life , Track IR will re-create that into Flightsim. It may sound a bit complicated, but it is so impressive! The other real challenge with what we do is the 'feel' factor. As obviously we can't feel the G's it makes it hard sometimes to judge a few things.. But overall it is a real blast and I must say it has made my real world flying that much more precise. Of course it is not going to be the same as flying for the Red Checkers in real life , but it is as close to it as I can imagine it !

We haven't tried a night / dusk session , but I am sure that it would be a blast. I imagine it would be a bit harder, so may have to give that a try Am not 100% sure but it is likely Max will not be flying for Virtual Red Checkers any more due to other commitments, but I will let you know As you may imagine it takes a lot of practice, even on Flightsim to be able to get anything near to what the real guys are doing
