Hi all!
I'm attempting to scratchbuild a 1:72 Fletcher out of sheet styrene and various spares, with only a three-view from the net to work off. Does anyone have any more detailed, perhaps R/C plans, with the structure? At work we only have parts and maintenance manuals, and they're not too much help unfortunately!
Is anything out there? Or do I have to grab a pen, paper and measuring tape and crawl all over one of our birds?

Zacyates
Good luck with this 1/72 scale project. FYI we have started designing this aircraft in 1/72 paper (and will then take it up to 1/48). It will be out next year. A Kiwi icon this aircraft...
Cheers
Terry

Fantastic set of plans there Shorty! I have this on my list of 1/48 scratchbuilding projects.
Is there any chance of getting a photocopy off you? I am happy to pay any costs.
Terry, that is excellent news too. I have to admire the work you have done it really is great. If I had more time I would love to have a bash at one..............but the BK-117 is consuming most of my spare energy right now.
Zac, the DVD and 500C arrived safely. I will try to see it this coming weekend. Looks like a good watch.
Cheers Anthony

Anthony
Actually one of the main reasons I decided to create things in paper is the time saving (30 years of plastic/vacs/resin experience pushed me in this direction) They are very family and time friendly designs and suit busy people, (so I'll be looking for volunteers to road test (or is that Test Flight) our instructions and kit on Fu24 and will put out the call on this forum...

I'd be happy to build a "test shot" of your Fu24 Terry! I was hoping like mad you'd be doing one! Judging by what I've seen on the website, it'll be a great model. I've never done paper models, but I'd love to get my hands on your Fletcher, as well as at least one each Fox Moth and Tiger Moth.
Shorty - su-freakin-perb! I'm with Anthony, any chance of getting hard copy? Also happy to pay any costs involved.
Dave - yes, I've seen Ian's model. Phwoar! I'm concocting an email to him as I type!

And another one Im working on, a 24th scale Fletcher Fu24 954, still a bit of finishing off and spinner refinement and wheels to make, canopy is taped off for molding. The above pic is a R/C 1/8th scale built from plans.

How would it work for you guys who want Fletcher drawings if I was to email the four pages to you so you can print them off and tape them together? Then it would be of to your local copy shop to get them done to whatever size you wanted. If that would work for you send me your email address with Fletcher drawings in the subject line and I'll send them. If not you'll need to wait until I go into civilisation again to get them copied.
Alan, is that Art Heenan's plan? I have the build article if it is (and if you need it)

Thankyou for the kind comments on the models, Shorty, they are indeed built from Arthur Heenan plans, all I have are the plans which I have had since around 1994, actually this is the second Fletcher Rc model I have built, the first one had a take off incident with a farm fence near whakamaru and subsequently written off. They actually fly very scale like and can take a load in the hopper aswell, and actually fly better with a load, they get abit lively without the added weight. The 24th scale one is a direct scale down from the R/C one I have onto A4 paper to the set scale. Plus a few modifications needed for ease of molding. Im hoping that this coming weekend I can get a mold of the cockpit and then do a vac formed clear one from it, and I might even try to get the under cowl section done so will take a mold of the cowl and add on the under cowl part with plastic card. It is my intention to make some molds of the whole plane and do a small run of them as a fiberglass and resin kitset either part or fully assembled, but we'll see ;D as they say... these things take time Cheers.

The 1:24th model is fantastic. As with the other members please keep us updated. I've just opened a 1:24th scale Airfix James Bond autogryo purchased on ebay. Perhaps a Fletcher is next?

I'd be up for one if you decided to do a limited run, fletch! That master looks almost like a vacform! I'm still in total amazement that no company has ever produced a model kitset of the FU24, not even a vacform or "garage" resin kit.
Deeply looking forward to the BAC 1:72 models in the meantime tho! I think five should keep me busy for a wee while....

Hi Zac, Yes I have often wondered why no company has ever done any kits either, Most likely the Fletcher is only really seen in NZ and a few in Oz and is not very popular outside NZ or worldwide known so no real profit in making them, Im sure if some were made for retail in NZ there would be a few sold as its a true kiwi icon, but in saying that Im suprised they havnt done anything more worldwide known such as Agwagons, Pawnees or Piper Braves. Infact I dont think there are any plastic kits of Ag aircraft, however I do believe there is a resin kit of a small 48th scale pawnee. I know there are Rc plans of most ag planes, even for the transavia Airtruck/Skyfarmer!. (which is my next project) That fletcher Im making is largely hand carved from solid wood and hotwire foam cut and fibreglassed over and ALOT of sanding! filling and more sanding! then a few coats of paint and buffing. It started off as abit of a practice project as never have done one like that before and sort of went from there. I saw you mention in another thread about fletchers and cresco aircraft at your work? Do you work for Wanganui aero work by any chance?
cheers. Alan
