I was thrilled when Jessica asked if I would like to come along and take some informal photos of the DAK crew on Saturday last week end. A well presented bunch of professional pilots and crew around a very good looking Dc 3 we know as ZK-DAK. We are lucky here in Auckland to have such a dedicated group of people running a great aircraft for us enthusiasts young and old to enjoy. If any one that is reading this and has thought of going on one of the Dc 3 outings come on along and join this team for a fantastic day out, or flight over Auckland. Some pics maybe a little repetitious but please bare with me as they are added here for your enjoyment. Brooke Mackley, Tim Dennis, Andrew (Skippy) Hope, Jolon Marshall, Adrian Gilbert, Morris Craig, Chris Brown (Despatcher), Rebecca Gatenby (Despatcher), Lesley Brown, Kathy Atkins-Sando, Jessica Cooper, Geoff Cooper. The fine looking gentleman joining us later on is Eddie Doherty (CEO) Missing from the photos are Ron Thorne (Watching us with a busted achilles...)Alister Scott, Peter Tarr, Paul Munro, Kathy Haigh, and Anne Maree O'Leary. Many thanks to all the crew for the fantastic time I have had flying with them around parts of NZ. Colin

Well done Colin, those are great photos and will be historic in the future. I agree, the Dakota crew members I've met are a great bunch of people.

What I wouldn't give to join them! The more you know about the DC-3, the more enjoyment you get from seeing them active. Keep up the good work.

What a nice selection of shots, Colin.
DAK is a truly wonderful machine, and I think the new colour scheme has really added something to her.

Who can pick out the future ZK-DAK driver from this collection of of the RNZAF's finest? (there is also a future Commercial Hot Air Balloon pilot there, 2 chocolate fish for getting them both right!)

Serious question Shorty, were those Ronnie Corbett glasses the height of fashion and worn by choice, or standard issue RNZAF specs? There seem to be a few people wearing them in your old 1960's photos.
Would the hot air balloon guy be Peter Gardner, back row on the left perhaps? A wild guess. He'd be about the right age.

Two answers, that style of glasses were the fashion of the times ( a lah Buddy Holly and lots of other 60s pop bands) Goverment issue ones were the John Lennon variety. Peter Gardner is not in the photo. The course BTW is 50 Airframe Mechanics Course 18-1-68 to 14-6-68
No chocolate fish awarded!

I always find it curious that John Lennon gets his name attached to a style of glasses that were around for at least a century before he began to wear them. They used to be called gas mask glasses at one point and spectacles before that.

Yeah, but Lennon changed the world, maaaaannnnnn! All I can say about those blokes in Shorty's picture is that I wouldn't have bought a used car from any of them! ;D

Yes, Lennon made music crap. Bring back the big bands and their awesome swing music!

The young generation wouldn't know who even Lennon was. He died 28 years ago! We're all getting old mate.

OMG- am I sleeping with a geek? Alarm! At least he wasn't wearing Buddy Holly Glasses....and he doesn't sell used cars... Even I am aghast.....never seen this photo before. His crew will be alarmed too....
This photo shoot last weekend was so much fun...but I need Colin to do some Panelbeating and soft focus on each shot before he adds more online...

Your choccy fish is in the mail! Mind you getting married to him just about qualifies as cheating )or taking detective work to the extreme) and you should only get half a fish! Do you want to hear some more stories?
