Hi all! As glimpsed in my JetRanger thread, some time ago I built a 1:48 Mustang with a contraprop. This honey is built from the High Planes "Precious Metal" short-run kit (actual aircraft seen below): I, however, had another, fictitious scheme in mind. Way back in high school (circa 2004) I dreamt up a TV series based around the Reno air races. The "bad guy" flew a race-modified Mustang, aerodynamically refined and powered by a mighty RR Griffon driving a six bladed contrarotating propeller. She was black, and named "Nighthawk". With the release of an injection-moulded "Precious Metal" kit this could now become a (scale) reality! The result is below: I know the paint isn't perfect, but I was going for the overall impression. The kit comes with white metal parts such as intake lip, U/C legs etc AS WELL as injection-moulded parts, but I raided an unstarted Revell-Monogram P-51D for some parts in preference to those from the High Planes kit. If you want to see an OOB version of this plane (with the earlier "World Jet" titling), check out a build report here: modelingmadness.com/reviews/civil/jamisonwj.htm

Wow, that would be a TV series I'd watch. Nice work.
So what did the goodie fly then?

I don't really remember, but I was young and silly and likely would've had a Mustang too. He started off with an (ex-RNZAF) Harvard to get race experience.
