Well, if you looked earlier in the thread you'd have seen my half guess, half fantasy impression of Cambridge Aerodrome in the 1930's. Now after much more research and thanks to Peter Lewis supplying a photo of Ted Harvie's Avian which actually operated there, I have more of an idea of the history now. So combining the original plane photo, digitally enhanced, with a photo I took recently of the actual airfield site, here is an upated and hopefully more realistic impression... Picture this, it is the summer of 1934. After a late afternoon and evening flight, ted Harvie has returned to Cambridge just as the sun is beginning to set. The scene looks on his aircraft from the Taylor Street side of the race track, looking in a northerly direction towards the pond, under the large distant trees. A warm eveing breeze flutters the Avian's control surfaces gently... soon it will be dark...but the forecast is for fine weather. The Avian will be safe roosting in the field overnight.... If you want to see the original two photos thery're on these pages www.cambridgeairforce.org.nz/Edgar%20Harvie.htmand www.cambridgeairforce.org.nz/Cambridges%20Aerodrome.htm
