Thank Errol , it seems to have been a great day. Our major event will be the annual Bomber Command parade and service at the Auckland WMM starting 1030 on Sunday June 7 .I will put up a proper notice next week. Later in June will be the unveiling of the Thomas Frederick Duck exhibit at MOTAT.

Peter , the paintings are with the conservators and we will be looking at an early July unveiling but I will let you know by email. I hope the Aussie branch come over to give the bell one last ring. It wont be the same as we lost Nick Carter the last crew member a month ago.

Well some of the history is certainly about to go. Photos taken today Looking down the old runway The two concrete hangars Barrack blocks to be apartments Places still look like an Air Force Station No 3 Squadron Hangar about to go The new Hobbie. Four stories, and traffic lights in the middle of the airfield

It amazes me how the military can make a dogs breakfast of so many of their purchases. How come after three years NH 90s still have restricted use. I agree , get some commercial oerators in , can you imagine Air NZ taking delivery of a new 787 and two years later they still cant fly the Tasman. DF procurement also seem to insist on so many mods the equipment becomes useless for any other normal purpose , but dont get me started.

The presentation to Dan Hunt CO of 5 Squadron was a bit of an anti-climax. 5 Squadron were there plus CAF, our President and Les (our Patron) plus a dozen WWII vets, the only thing, the trophy (bronze statue of an airman) was still in HQ Wellington. The coffee and sandwiches were nice! Dan Hunt with Les Munro and Ron Mayhill (President) and CAF The RAF boys catch up,. Harry Cammish, Des Hall with Trevor Parker Now listen here, Des making a point to Bryan Rae. Trophy sponsor Ian Kuperus in the background Wing Commander Hunt and the Squadron should have the trophy in their honours cabinet next week

Lord AShcroft will hand the medal set and logbooks over to Les at a small ceremony at MOTAT in the middle of April. Les will then hand them to MOTAT/NZBCA to become part of the planned permanent 617 squadron display.
Purpetual Guardians offer of establishing a NZBCA Trust is very welcome and their proposed " Bomber Command pavilion " especially good news.

I was just advised by Les that he has accepted Lord Asncrofts offer so his medals will return to New Zealand and form part of the NZ BCA display at MOTAT
