Very nice Errol , good to see we got both ends. Dave , ground rent is so expensive in Thames that locals are forced to park on things .

Thanks David , exactly what I was wondering about. I have flown a Tiger Moth but never a Harvard and it seems to be quite daunting to start flying training in a Harvard with their power , wing loading and speed. Perhaps a Harvard man could comment.

That seems a lot of deaths in three weeks when Eurpoe was at peace. I must study your For Your Tomorrow volumes.

A question , put to me yesterday at MoTAT , and I couldnt answer it. When did the RNZAF stop using Tiger Moths for elementary flying training and what replaced it ?

Great shots and that cannon camera footage deserves to be on the big screen .

There are some Lincoln photos in the 75 squadron post , none appear to have armament , the others from the Baigent collection I have of the same aircraft but different angles are machine gun free. But it was common for the guns to be removed from the turrets for cleaning and checking and refitted prior to ops , so test flights may have been made without armament.

Welcome Simon. We hold quite a file on Rodney Williams with many of his target photos. Rodney volunteered for the FAA but crossed to the RAF (as 1395356). In 1944 he moved to the RNZAF as NZ2074. The photo below shows his crew L to R Bainbridge W/OP, Brind F/E, Hadley B/A, Rodney P, Bush Nav, Maggs M/UG, Morris RG Also one of his many target photos, this one of Bunn I will email the family contacts to you

With the change in NZBCA executive , the newsletter is now restricted to members only and I have ceased to produce it. With less than 20 WWII veterans left plus a few postwar aircrew the Association will now depend upon family members and associates. I am still maintaining the archive and answering any questions relating to records and photos. At some stage this collection will go to the AWMM. Three of us continue with the Lancaster tours but these are limited to vets, vet families and movie/ doco producers . I think the odd VIP gets in as well. So aside from access to the archives , queries should go to nzbombercommand@gmail.com

While not on the mobile hangar theme Dave , does anybody have details on the Haast aerodrome, a very large area, seemingly built with great difficulty and perhaps never used. It seems far to big for an emergency strip and I have always wondered if it was part of a planned Fiordland redoubt.

Yes thats the one . The fuselage was built over size ( 10% cant remember) , I guess for the filming space needed . Also an oversize half Sperry was built for the same reason but that was scrapped. I will check and see if I can post some of the MoTAT shots .
