You guys contact these outlets and let them know about these errors, right? Yes I did once and was asked why I bothered reading it at all if I did not like what I saw .

I would like to complete a 1/72 Frog kit of this aircraft as it appeared 3 months after its epic Pacific crossing . At the time it first crossed the Tasman and arrived in Christchurch . Dave helped me find the articles from the August 1978 issue of Wings , and one of these by the late Rex Crawford in simple terms , states the aircraft was in the same colours and markings as it was when it crossed the Pacific with the addition of the registration G-AUSU in black under both wings . Now photos of this aircraft at this time appear to be very few and hard to find , and thirty five odd years ago may not have been available to Rex , however I believe that I have seen more than one photo showing the aircraft also carried a black G on a white band on it's rudder and also the G-AUSU registration in white under the fuselage windows . This registration was carried for a relatively short period of time , soon being replaced with the more familiar VH-USU . I have two questions , one , can anyone confirm or otherwise the details of this aircraft when it first flew the Tasman in 1928 , and two , was the G-AUSU displayed to be read from the front on the starboard wing , and from the rear on the port wing ?

Correct on all counts , it was a 50th anniversary and probably the most important article from my point of view was the by Rex .

No I had not , thanks untold for that prompt as it enabled me to find and get a copy of several of the articles in that issue , which are probably the best written on the subject .

Not sure if this is the correct place to look for this , I am looking for copy of an article I know was in an old Wings Magazine . I definitely have a copy of the magazine somewhere but I have so far been unable to locate it . One more of those things I put in a safe place for use later , which will only be rediscover when I die and my house is cleared ! The article in question is about Smithy's Fokker Trimotor and the differences that were apparent with it on the three occasions it made it here . I would like to complete a 1/72 kit of it as it was when flown off Ohope Beach .

This story came my way a couple of years ago , via a Tauranga friend , and we dismissed it on the simple basis that the closest aircraft were possibly in Australia and there being no record of those ever being lost over here . I think we concluded there was something not right about this story . Possibly the plate came from a WW11 British or European crash site ?

Apparently there is an article about it on the Auckland IPMS site . While with 102 Sqn a Kiwi pilot flew it on quite a missions .

Thanks for that , the Airfix picture would appear to have the nose art about 1/3rd bigger and no bomb log . I look forward to more info coming to light .

I have been shown a picture of one of this kit's decal options , it depicts NZ426 EY-G with a Tiki emblem as nose art . I believe the serial should read MZ426 . Does anyone know more about this 78 Sqn aircraft or it's Kiwi connections ?

I have just been told an old guy was buried today in Tokoroa who had been involved in the development of the TSR2 , anyone know any more . The name I have been given is N.R.D Coleman , known I believe as Donald , had a career in the RAF I am led to believe and then became involved with the development of the TSR2 . I did not know the man but while talking to friends they mentioned him and showed me a photo which did include what looked like a wooden model of a TSR2 , this model was the size and type I could imagine sitting on somebodys desk .

Has anybody read this book about the Battle of Britain ? I am thinking of buying it and would welcome any opinions , I am told it is a fresh look by an inquiring mind rather than a rehash of what has been already published .

Have our C-130 been fitted with ski undercarriages for working in Antarctica ? I can find plenty of pictures of American ones on skis but none of ours . Have ours ever had them fitted , even borrowed ones ?

There may have been a change of policy at FHC as I believed they demanded privacy too , then the other day I saw on the Net a video of the first test run of one of their Jumo 004's re engineered for their Me 262 .

On the port side of that Snipe , just below the cockpit sill is the word EXPERIMENTAL which is possibly an indication that this aircraft is going to the USA ?

I wish the Albion was in 1/72 , and Revell are apparently doing a Shackelton as well and it is also a new mould , an AEW3 .

Hopefully my mate can do a little better than the Topgun kit , a good effort but against the plans , their kit could stand a little improvement . Your Walkabout is a great reference source , the only place we could find decent main cabin interior shots . Many thanks .

Thanks for that , seems overall the Airfix kit is the better and it has the rotor in the correct position . A friend is in the process of producing a resin conversion/correction kit , and I may have a go at both an F and a G , using both kits .

I have the two kits in 1/72 that have been produced of this aircraft , having the intention of making one into an RNZAF version . I was comparing the two the other day and noticed quite a difference in the position of the rotor head between the two kits . I am trying to figure out who has it right Airfix or Fujimi ?
