They make a great brew, very popular over here in Fremantle. What a great place for their operation, I hope it gets good patronage.
I can recommend the "Rogers" and their pale ale isnt too foul either!

Simply stunning. Its difficult to comprehend the work and attention to detail in those paintings. Dont recall seeing much better than that, ever.

That's interesting - the Waiotauru River is quite a long way from Waikanae, 8 miles east figures. It's also behind the major ridge Kapakapanui and the only easy access is about 12 miles in via a long disused logging road off the summit of the Akatarawa Road, made in the 1960s- I'm sure Denys would remember the trip in there. Not having been to the site, I'm in no position to debate this but my memory tells me that the site was on the "Waikanae Ridge" as glider pilots know it, parallel to and immediately above SH1 and I thought in the near vicinity of the Lodestar AKX. This fits with Denys' memory of being "not far from the main road". It also fits with the pilot's statement about finding his way down a creek to the nearest homestead which could mean either the Western side to the main road or the Eastern side to Reikorangi. If he had descended a creek into the Waiotauru, I think he'd still be there - it was very dense, untracked bush in those days and the Otaki Gorge is very difficult to negotiate In the AHSNZ Journal many years ago there was a story written by the late Bud Mills about an exercise No 3 Squadron carried out to locate Tararua wrecks. Some AHSNZ stalwart might be able to locate that, or even articles about the recovery of the Hind There's also "Papers Past" which might be worth a crack Hi guys, AKX "Kereru" crashed on our family farm, my father and grandfather led the recovery team to the site. I dont recall dad ever talking about any other crash in the vicinity, although he wouldve been overseas at the time. We used to walk into the site as kids to see the wreckage, and in '88 I joined in with the exercise using 3 Sqn to bring out whatever was useful for the museum to use. Possibly more NE of that location would be the Hind? Naybe accessed from Te Horo way perhaps?

Well its pretty much Christmas day in NZ so Ill get in first... Merry Christmas to one and all!
Hope 2018 has been a good year for you, we've certainly seen triumphs and tragedies thats for sure. I'm still at work (again) where the mercury hit 46 degrees today, and the front seat covers in the truck registered 84 degrees with my temperature gun! Hopefully flying home Wednesday night, if the plane isnt delayed due to the heat....
Have a great day, and looking forward to a wonderful 2019.

I remember that, yeah Perth pretty much shuts down any time anything interesting happens. Crowd went nuts over this one.
From memory was a big generator heading down south?

Evening all, I'm looking at adding to my ink collection with a couple of aviation-based jobs. I've chosen 1 for each forearm - A4K Skyhawk, and the other a DH Mosquito. Still working out if top or side view....or silhouette/blueprint or full colour...
My tatts all have significance, and these will also be for me - The A4 being the formative years of my youth, where decisions were made that have got me to where I am today; and the Mossie which was Dad's in WW2, he flew 55 missions over Germany, and without its superior design qualities he probably wouldn't have made it back from one of them.
My original concept was just the powerplant for each one (J52/RR Merlin), but the technical detail with that was huge.
My question is: anybody else here got an aviation themed tattoos? If so, anything you'd change or done to make it better? I've googled plenty of images and I've only found 1 A4, and never seen a Mossie.
Cheers in advance!

Morning all, I'm flying PER - Brisbane tomorrow, and Virgin have just emailed me about their new Wifi entertainment system.
I had some concerns about this, having read some reviews but couldnt really get a straight answer from their help desk....
Sooooo, if anyone can help I'd certainly appreciate it:
- Can you use bluetooth headphones when using their entertainment app? I wouldn't mind catching a movie or two, but if I cant use my headphones I'll have to get another set. - Are there USB charging ports on the seats? Not much point using my phone to watch movies if the battery runs out quick smart... - Apparently on the 737-800 they dont even have seatback screens, so it appears that its the phone or nothing. I dont have a tablet, and I suspect my computer will not be compatible.
Anyone used it before? Thoughts? Cheers!

Merry Christmas from sunny W.A too!
BTW, anyone else working on the 25th? Once again I've drawn the short straw, but in theory the next 7 Christmases I'll be on my R&R....

I thought NZ drivers were the worst... then I moved to Perth. The merge like a zip concept is one that is staggeringly unable to be understood here.

Getting into an aircraft with a firm plan in mind of exiting well before it has landed and engine stopped is clearly a sign of madness anyway! If I was in that situation it would be easy to spot me by the large trail of brown stuff preceding me.... Tough decision to make there, and pretty easy to dissect it in an enquiry scenario well afterwards. I would have no doubt the pilot would always have the well-being of his passengers as a priority nonetheless.

Even if you didnt like his music - you'd have to admire his skills as a superb writer, musician and hid incredible vocal range, he could span 4 octaves, which was no mean feat.
But I loved his music, so I'm a bit bummed out over it. The black dog raises its ugly head again, mental health is a subeject that just shouldnt go away. And its knowing where to get help could mean all the difference...

nzmilitarymedals.com/replicas.htmlWhen I joined the RNZAF I told the Psychs that I was signing on to go into the draw for a VC. If I had realised you could buy them so cheaply I wouldn't have bothered. Quite right, this medal for my participation in the Gallipoli campaign goes well with my award for bravery over Germany in WW2. Clashes a bit with my George Cross for killing so many VC in Korea, but heyyyy nobody's gonna check are they? Sadly yes there are these sorts of twits around, but they seem to get recognised so quickly now and publicly humiliated.

Hi guys, not sure if its been covered recently here (did look briefly without success) but I'm looking at buying some replica medals for my son to wear at Anzac parades etc on his RAAF cadets uniform.
Can anyone recommend a fairly reputable dealer in Australia, or NZ for these? I've had a look at ebay but not really sure whats what.
Looking for DFC, 39-45 star, Bomber Command medal, France Germany Star, and a couple of other common ones Dad got for ticking the boxes in England at the time :-)
Thanks in advance....

Typical, I'm working again...could the organisers at least give me a yell to see if I'm busy that week? Honestly, this is the second decent airshow I was all geared up to see and work gets in the way grrr.
(And yes, I could take leave, but have to take a week off each time, not just a couple of days.)

Oh man, such a thorny subject. I work in mining in Western Australia. H&S is massive here, its potentially dangerous work and theres rules for just about EVERYTHING. Now up till recently I really couldnt see sense in this, and frequently mocked a lot of the rules we had, which just seemed over the top.
Whats come as a realisation though is that everyone has a right to go home safe. The rules are there usually because some numpty has been ignorant of safety or deliberately chose to carry out a dangerous activity and has harmed himself or others. Its really sad as its taken away the need for using common sense and situational awareness.
I dont know much about the recreational aviation sector, and how all this legislation affects you guys, but I'll tell ya what - theres nothing more heartbreaking than dealing with trauma or death in the workplace. H&S is a strong part of my role as an industrial medic and even though its taken me decades of carrying out slightly unsafe work practices to realise this its here now and you just cant fight it.
Take the mickey out of overzealous H&S inspectors etc absolutely, but just be safe out there guys!

If you're going to talk about atrocities commited by dictators, perhaps you should look at some of the dictators put into power and propped up by various American regimes. The Americans are the last ones to have the moral standing to be able to talk about despot regimes. Would you like me to post a list? It would be a long one. Oh absolutely, over the past 100 years or so there have been so many innocents on both sides of the spectrum sacrificed by political leaders who believed they knew best, and had backing (right or left) to support them. With more transparency available now its a little harder for the big boys to meddle in affairs that should not concern them (but they still do!). Crazy world indeed....

I've just been reading a site called The Real Cuba.com, it outlines the absolute atrocities carried out by Castro and his goons over the decades. As far as best medical facilities goes, Ive seen photos of their hospitals - I certainly wouldnt want to be treated, or work, there.
Yep, he did stand up to Imperialist American aggression, but his sheer hatred also took us to the brink of nuclear war. I'm staunchly right-wing, and do (mostly) try to keep politics out of here, but I hope Castro is currently enjoying some extreme temperatures right now with some of his fellow despots....

What you do is load the RNZAF field kitchens and catering staff into Andover replacements , fly them into Kaikoura Airport, (they can get in there) and then follow that up with extra manpower, starting with non-tech troops to get things going, oh, wait a minute, we cant do that anymore we don't have any of that stuff, thanks all you pollies Thats all contracted out now anyway isnt it? At greater expense to Government than having career servicemen ever was....
